Posted By: Scot
I have inherited a set of Brooklyn Dodgers baseball cards/photos and am trying to find out more about them.

These are 5x7 inch black and white photos with no writing on them at all. They scanned in a bit chunky but are almost flawless. Included are Pee Wee Reese, Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Walter Alston,Don Newcombe, Gil Hodges, Carl Erskine, Duke Snider, Clem Labine, Randy Jackson, Carl Furillo, and Johnny Podres.

Please see the following sample

If you have info on these cards please respond

Scot

They were sold in team sets of 12 each year.
-Rhett

Edited to add...I think yours is from 1958 (as I believe that is the first year they were made), and if I remember right Jackson was only with the Dodgers in '56 and '57, so it could be an early 58 issue

Posted By: Rhett Yeakley
Steve, I thought the same thing, and you are probably right. I had thought they started producing the Jay sets in 1958, but I'm sure there are those that know a lot more about these than I do.
-Rhett

Posted By: Paul
I bought the complete set in a Hunt's Auction, with the envelope. They definitely were not made by Jay's. The envelope is unlike any Jay's issue I've seen. I later read that they were sold two ways -- a set of Dodgers photos alone, or combined with a set of Yankees photos. I suspect the combined sets were sold during the 1956 World Series. The Dodgers alone may have been sold at Ebbetts field or possibly through the mail (although my envelope has no stamps or postmark).

Hunt listed them as 1956 which makes sense to me since Jackie Robinson is included. I may have read somewhere that they continued to be sold into the 1957 season.
