Posted By: Bruce Babcock
Anybody going to the Cubs game on Friday, August 1? I'm wondering what's the best way to get there from the Convention Center area (I'm at the Hyatt).

I'm actually taking AMTRAK from LA to Chicago so I'm leaving Monday night. I'm shooting for the "longest trip to the Convention" record (41 hours if the train is on time), as opposed to furthest distance traveled.

Why? Trains are another hobby of mine. BTW, anybody have a "ballpark" idea of the cab fare between Union Station and the Convention Center area?

I'll be at the NET54 dinner Thursday night if anyone wants to coordinate travel plans to Wrigley on Friday.

Posted By: Ken McMillan
A buddy of mine has season tickets and looks like we may be going. He is going to let me know in the next few days. I vaguely remember hearing on WGN about bus lines going into Wrigley. You might go to Cubs.com for information to the ballpark. Also from downtown, you can take the L to the ballpark. If I et more info, I can e-mail you.

Kmac

Posted By: Bob
Bruce, 2 years ago we rode all over Chicago on the "L" and never had to get a taxi. Here's a link of the L map, maybe you can figure somthing out.

http://www.transitchicago.com/maps/maps/F2002D.html

Posted By: Tim
Definitely take the L.

The traffic around the ball park is horrible.

It's cheap and easy. Just go to the nearest station and follow all the people in the Cubs gear.

Just remember the name of the station you need to come back to.

Posted By: Jay
Bruce--I once took that train ride (I am a big train fan too). The best part for me was the scenery in Colorado. Once you get east of there there is not a lot that is too exciting. Look forward to meeting you at the show.

Best---Jay

Posted By: Martin Neal
I love trains too. I think I will look into Amtrak's schedule from Washington to Chicago. Great idea only if I can crash the net54 dinner. I once took the Canadian National from Montreal to Vancouver $50.00 for a youth ticket in 1972. Great memories. 25 or 6 to 4

Posted By: Sean BH
I would just take the L everywhere, the Hyatt at Rosemont has a stop about 2 blocks away and from there it goes straight downtown, all for around $2 with no traffic problems and you get to ride more trains!

You can expect to pay about $40-$50 to take a cab from Rosemont to DT Chicago.

About 10 years ago I took the train from Minneapolis to Chicago...one of the best traveling experiences of my life!
Posted By: Sean
Frank,
Buying them outside the ballpark is pretty much always the way to go, I have a little post in the above link on how to get some tickets and a few beers in the process!

Sean
