Posted By: Jodi Birkholm
Paul,

You pose a very relevant question! I agree with you that postally-used cards should be graded in a more lenient manner when it comes to cancellation markings. It's an entirely different story if a pen stroke is so heavy that it affects the verso of a PC. When first issued, these items were fully intended to be utilized in this fashion. The grading of said should not suffer so tremendously as a result.

I do want to re-state that, as I am not a card (or in this case) postcard collector, my opinions/observances follow the course of logic rather than knowledge or experience. It never hurts to ask about topics of which you aren't fully informed.

Posted By: Jeff Lichtman
Paul, I agree: it's one thing if a card is marked when it wasn't supposed to be marked; totally different on a postcard. I also find some of the writing on cards interesting. Let's put it this way, all things being equal I'd rather have a postcard written on than a blank-backed baseball card stamped with the owner's name and address.

Posted By: Dave F

Thanks Jodi and Tim. I think it will look alot better in an SGC holder. Those crappy PSA holders really are not good news with the card just sliding around in there.

Posted By: Jodi Birkholm
Although I do have more friends at PSA, I too have to admit a personal affinity for the aesthetically-pleasing SGC holder. (This should not be construed as an endorsement for any particular company. ) I'm Barack McCain, and I approve this message.

Posted By: Phil Garry
Dan:

I have seen some 1.5's and even 2's with writing on them as long as it doesn't detract tremendously from the overall appearance of the card. Since these are so large and the player's name is pre-printed, the handwritten years and position do not make a huge negative impact on the card's presentation.

Posted By: Jimi
Yeah, you can read about my "PC Discovery" in my other thread I started. I have been quoted anywhere from $225 - $600 for this example, but ultimately, as you know, it's whatever someone is willing to pay. I'm not giving this one up just yet though!

I'm loving the T222s though. I just started the set about 4 months ago and have acquired over half of them now including some toughies. I just hope to land the Johnson soon!

Jimi
