Posted By: Rich Klein
As an FYI -- if you live near the Cleveland Area -- and want to get immersed in baseball for 3-4 days, I heartily recommend attending all or part of the SABR convention this weekend.

I'll be there -- if you want to say hello -- and the trip involves going to 3 baseball games (majors and minors), a banquet, research presentations, trivia contests and lots of lobby hanging and discussing baseball.

I'm sure Tom Hufford will be there and I'd bet other readers/posters as well. There are charges for some of the events -- but much of the best stuff (hanging out) is free.

Off the top of my head -- I believe the event is in the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Cleveland. You can check for more details at SABR.ORG if interested

Regards
Rich

Posted By: Tom Hufford
Right, Rich, I am here in Cleveland - looking forward to seeing you any other Net 54'ers who might show up, too.

It looks like a great convention - we open tomorrow morning (Thursday) with a few words from Bob Feller (isn't he the best pre-war pitcher still around?), who has agreed to stay around most of the day.

Player/broadcaster panels will include Rick Manning, Len Barker, Dave Burba, Joe Charboneau, Vern Fuller, and Kevin Rhomberg (not pre-war, but ....)

Research presentations will include:

"The First Century of 'Take Me Out to the Ballgame'"
"Tris Speaker: A Leader Among Men"
"Smoke on the Water: Joe Wood in Cleveland"
"Playing Legion Ball on 'Mr. Groom's Team'" - presented by Bob Groom's granddaughter
"Dr. Joseph Creamer: The Man Who Tried to Fix the 1908 Pennant Race"
"The 1908 Bribe Attempt: The Untold Story"
"A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Coliseum" - about Bill Veeck's plan to move the St. Louis Browns to the West Coast, and how Pearl Harbor interruped.
etc., etc.

A great time should be had by all!
