Posted By: Wesley
I have a few issues and think the magazine is great. I don't often use published priceguides, but the priceguide is realistic and has lists of actual sales for significant cards in some sets. There are articles about prewar sets, in each issue, written by Lyman Hardeman from Old Cardboard. I thought Lyman's article about the Sporting News sets and the Babe Ruth rookie cards was excellent.

Posted By: hrbaker
as well. Well done and informative. Althought you have to look passed the fact that the 1933 Goudey set is basically listed as everyone's rookie card if that kind of thing matters to you.

Posted By: Grant Sandground
Guys,

Thanks for your feedback on our Graded Card Investor magazine. Good catch on the "Goudey RC thing". We added those tags over a year ago for a book we did on Rookie Cards where we had to try and figure out RC's for all the pre-1948 sets. Obviously, that's an area open for interpretation and we stuck to the guidelines that are more synonymous with post-WWII sets (nationwide distribution in wax packs, baseball-themed product etc.) and 1933 Goudey was pretty much the beginning of that format.

All of the RC tags really weren't intended beyond the "Utlimate RC" book project as the status for which cards are RC's for pre-WWII cards are typically left undefined. Most folks would likely consider Babe Ruth's RC to hail from the M101-4 and M101-5 issues but who's done the research to figure out all of the commons and minor stars? In any case, the RC tags were really not intended to appear in standard print publications such as GCI - they slipped under our radar while we were cramming like mad to make sure we had pricing up to snuff.

Again, thanks for the catch on the Goudey RC tags . . . we've gone back and cleared out RC tags for all pre-WWII issues in GCI. As to which cards are the standard, recognized RC's for pre-WWII superstars such as Ruth, Cobb and Wagner - it's a great topic to discuss . . . and could be a very cool article for GCI. Which pre-WWII sets are or are not "mainstream"? Do Cobb's RC's hail from the Dietsche Postcards set? Does anyone see a need to add RC tags to sets like T206?

Again, thanks to everyone for taking a look through our Graded Card Investor magazine. We're making our best effort to put out a print publication that benefits the collecting community and we hope you enjoy it.

We look forward to hearing your additional feedback so we can continue improving the content for forthcoming issues.

Thanks,
Grant Sandground
Beckett Media LP

Posted By: leon
Sorry you couldn't make it to lunch today but Brandon and I took in the good food (and sights) for you. I pretty much hammered on him about your Goudey RC card thing and thanks for addressing it. It is a great discussion that we have had many times on the board. (what is a RC etc....?) Because you just corrected the Ruth situation AND I think ya'll are doing a great job with the mags I just now subscribed to Elite and GCI for the next year. I hope others will help support the hobby also in doing so. Ya'll really seem to be doing good things. I think it's great to put our hobby in a good light. We need more of it. Ask Brandon about what we talked about concerning the Net54 dinner too...It should be interesting!!.........Hope to see you around....
and I will be finishing that short project for you very soon also...best regards

Posted By: Anonymous
I got mine yesterday. I liked it and it has sets that SMR doesn't. Very well put together. Their hope is for people to subscribe to this magazine. They sold me on getting a subscription. Even if the prices are not as good as VCP it is still nice to receive a Baseball Card magazine in the mail every once in a while!
