Posted By: Tony
I think it comes down to overall presentation of the card. 10's that have pin holes, rips
and considerable paper loss will range in about the $7K-$8K range.
10's that have only common creasing and corner rounding but still present well, will still
run you $10K+. I think Steve's analogy above is right on though.

Tony
Every auciton seems to have 2-3 of them.

I forget which auction but one have a 10 and a 20 a few months ago and there were some that went in the 5000-6000 range.

Oddly I bought the one I had about a year ago for half that, so either I got a great deal or these things somehow REALLY spiked in the last 12-16 months.

James G

Looking for 1915 Cracker Jacks and 1909-11 American Caramel E90-1.

Posted By: Tony
James - I don't think your taking into consideration the buyers premium those cards carried.
On an average you can add another $1500 bucks or so on top of the figures you gave to reflect
the buyers premium they bring.
Grabbing one these even in beater shape for under $6K just doesn't happen anymore.
Posted By: quan
i'm also looking to get a low-end jax back even since i sold mine, but i didn't go after the mile high ones. i felt the sgc10 had a partial corner missing, thus losing some of the appeal. that's probably the reason it hovered around 7k. i would rather put in 1-2k more and get something i could enjoy rather than cringe at

p.s. the gai1.5 in the same mile high auction i thought was in line with the pricing as it had a big pin hole and ended around 9.5k? too lazy to look up vcp.

Posted By: Tony Andrea
Darren, It's funny how many people continue to state what you say about the E90-1 Jax
yet it stays strong. I'll be the first to say it's not the most attractive pose of Jax
but the demand of this card far out weighs the availability of it.
For every 1 or 2 that pop up for sale your always going to have a greater number of persons
going after it by a much larger margin.
After all, let's face it. It is considered by many Shoeless Joe's rookie card.

Tony

And while it may not be the most attractive card, it's unattractiveness is cool in my opinion. Anyone think the Voskamp Wagner is a good looking card? No, but it's a damn cool card.
Posted By: Adam
I too have thought of buying this Joe Jackson card in a low grade. It's been between that and a 1914 CJ Mathewson. I value both cards, in low grade, at around 6-7k. Since I tell myself I only collect T206s, I try very hard to limit my purchases of others. As such, I have decided it's going to be a "buy one or the other but not both."

I take it by responses above the 1914 Mathewson would be a better buy (or "investment," if I can steal Leon's word above) as the Jackson is "overpriced?"

Posted By: SC
Marquee cards - an icon card, if you will. If not, it's gotten pretty close.

I remember one in Hunt, I think VG to Ex or something similar (ungraded if I remember correctly) a number of years ago, selling for $3000 to a phone bidder, and I thought it was a crazy price. Quite simply, any of the icon cards sell far above what a simple supply/demand curve would dictate.

Posted By: Jeff Lichtman
Ryan, I agree (I think I was the underbidder). Very cool looking card with the white background and stark Wagner image. But it's kind of a plain, dumpy image of him with no color, etc. My point is, sometimes a card's lack of artistic flair makes it an incredibly cool card.

Posted By: Dan Kravitz
Quan- My buddy picked up the jax card with a supposed hole in it and it turned out to be a mark and not a hole. If it were described that way, it may have sold for more money.

I think the Jackson card is very cool and not sure why everyone is hating on it. It looks similar to Cobb leaning on his bat, which is arguably the coolest card of Cobb's many examples. It is also a very unique color. Purple cards are cool, damn it! I can only think of 3 issues that Jackson is in that is in color... t210 (rare, and too pricey!), e90-1 & Cracker Jax. Not too many choices if you want a color example. E90-1 is his true rookie card and the mystic that follows Jackson will never die. The card will continue to go up in price in VG condition or better. Anything less than VG will continue to circulate regularly, so the price may be stagnant. Personally, it is in my top 5 favorite cards in my collection and will be one of the last ever sold.

Posted By: Jeff Lichtman
Dan, the Cobb on bat pose is similar obviously to the Jackson e90-1; but Cobb actually looks like that image and Jackson does not. I think that is the hesitancy for some people on the Jackson. I happen to like both and if I were a crazy Jackson collector as I am with Cobb, I'd be all over it.

Posted By: Glen Turner
I have a Jackson card that is graded SGC 20.
I bought in about 1977. I bid in an auction that was described as a lot of 8 E-cards.
I thought what the heck and bid $4. and won the lot. Needless to say I can't remember who the other 7 cards were.
Wish I had a T210 Old Mill Jackson, back in 1977 I would have probably had to pay at least $4 for it alone. Ha!!
Posted By: JimB
Leon said,
"Another reason that this card is high priced is that the people with them bid on them to protect their "investment"....."

I suppose that is possible, but if you don't want to buy a duplicate, that is very risky. In order to push the envelope on price, one would have to bid at or near what it will sell for. Just putting a low bid in doesn't do anything except maybe eliminate a prospective bidder. I am not saying this sort of thing has never happened, but I doubt it is a regular occurance on a serious level. Maybe I am naive.

Dan,
I love the pose of the E90-1, but the frequently screwed up facial image is a hinderance for me. Personally, I'll take the CJ or T210, but that is awefully pricey.
JimB

Posted By: Dan Kravitz
I owned a 1914 CJ Matty in an SGC 40 holder, and it was cool. The problem with the card is that it is super pricey and the price fluctuates alot. I also think that the Matty is no tougher than any other 1914, and wouldn't carry a premium if the same pose were in the 1915 set.
