Posted By: george hoagland
i have 2 old original [large] 11x14 1930's new york yankees 'dugout' pictures both of which have major creases in them from being folded in half, and consequently were scotch taped decades ago [the tape is now yellowed] right down the middle of the pictures and faces of lou gehrig and joe dimaggio. should i have them professionally restored or will that devalue the pictures? if i should restore them is there anything i should know of be aware of prior to doing so? thanks for your help and advice. george h

george h

Posted By: Denny Walsh
I restored copies of mine and kept the originals the way they were. Mine had a about an inch missing from the top left corner and various creasing thru out the photos. I get to enjoy the reprints and kept the originals for the time being the they are. I also believe that the issues with the originals keep the history of them alive. I actually dig them that way

Life's grand,
Denny Walsh

If you restored the photos it would likely increase their value, but might not outpace the restoration cost. There's no ethical issue removing yellowed scotch tape from the image of a photo.

As the tape has probably dried out, it may not be difficult to remove-- though obviously extra care has to be taken.
