He didn't make a thunderous dunk ala Darryl Dawkins he just took a set shot and the backboard, which was faulty, shattered.

He was also drafted by the Chicago Bears

Posted By: Brian

Here is something I wrote previously on Strand with some links:

Paul Strand holds the record for most hits in a single season in professional baseball with 325. He racked up back-to-back seasons with .384 in 1922 and .394 in 1923. The .384 came off of 752 at-bats in 178 games and the .394 season came from 825 at-bats in 194 games. His 325 hits came in 1923 when he had 187 RBI. And he pitched at least one perfect game in the minors. He is in the PCL HOF http://www.minorleaguenews.com/baseball/affiliated/aaa/pcl/features/articles2004/041404.10.html

He won a World Series w/ the Miracle Braves in 1914. He received the highest signing bonus ever (at the time) for a pitcher in the early 1910s AND the highest signing bonus ever (at the time) for a hitter in 1924. His MLB stats are here http://baseball-reference.com/s/stranpa01.shtml

Here is a Bill James tidbit about Strand: http://books.google.com/books?id=mUzTJ4-8N0EC&pg=RA2-PA143&lpg=RA2-PA143&dq=%22paul+strand%22+salt+lake+%22bill+james%22&source=web&ots=UEhl4WjgNB&sig=-Atfh18d_fyR-dKw4AbF27E1kjs&hl=en#PRA1-PA143,M1

I own the autographed paper but not the ball...
