SGC Guarantee

Posted By: <b>Andy</b><p>I use SGC, I like SGC, so I am not bashing them at all, but I was reading their guarantee and thought it was a bit odd...<br /><br />"SGC guarantees that all cards submitted shall be graded by SGC grading experts in accordance with SGC grading procedures. In the event the original submitter of an SGC card believes that the card has been overgraded with respect to such procedures, the original submitter may resubmit that card to SGC for a review of the assigned grade. THIS RESUBMISSION MUST BE REQUESTED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF RECEIPT FROM SGC."<br /><br />If you submit a card to them and it grades higher than you expected, or estimated, are you really going to send it back in and tell them you think it deserves a lower grade? I think the call would be a bit odd.."Hi, I had my 1987 Topps Edwin Nunez graded by you and it graded an 88(8), I really thought it should be a 80(6), I'm going to send it back."<br /><br />Are you covered if you buy a card at a show and they missed a chip on the surface or a small wrinkle if you are not the original submitter?

Posted By: <b>Ron Lambert</b><p>A few years back I bought an SGC92 Bob Griese Rookie that had what looked to be a small finger nail indentation in the left border.<br /><br />The card had just been submitted by the seller at the Fort Washington show and I bought the card from him via Ebay.<br /><br />When it arrived, I immediately noticed this indentation and pointed out to the seller that it wasn't visible in the scan and I wanted to return the card. <br /><br />Of course the seller wanted nothing to do with that and told me to take it up with SGC. I called Sean Skeffington and he verified that the card had been slabbed at the Fort show and could only speculate that either they missed the flaw or perhaps damaged the card while slabbing it onsite at Fort Washington.<br /><br />SGC lowered the grade of the card to something that was appropriate and I was compensated the difference between my purchase price and the new "market value" for the card.<br /><br />

Posted By: <b>sagard</b><p>They are intentionally vague. I have heard cases of both PSA and SGC taking bad cards back. Most hear will swear by the SGC warranty.

Posted By: <b>Jason L</b><p>I was collecting Ozzie Smith and Kirby Puckett cards last year for purposes of the PSA Set Registry fun, and then it came time to buy slabbed 1987 Topps cards... I realized I had just spent $15+ on 25cent 1987 Topps cards. Believe me, that was quite an epiphany.<br />I am an idiot.<br /><br />but, it hasn't stopped me, either...so we will turn a blind eye and recall that ignorance is bliss.
