Posted By: ockday
So often we hear negative stories about different dealers and auction houses that I thought it would be nice to point out some very positive experiences with a card dealer.
I am referring to our very own Barry Sloate. I am sure many of you know this already but it bears repeating.
He is a simply pleasure to work with, honest almost to a fault and just an all around good guy.
I never have to worry about payments from consignments as NO ONE pays faster and since I am in NYC, he comes to me to pick up whatever I am looking to sell. When buying from Barry, the cards arrive virtually the next day.
I know this sounds like a commercial for him but this is totally unsolicited and just my way of saying thanks.

Alan

I spoke with him this morning......They don't know if it's going to be tomorrow or a month from now...but she is going downhill quickly. Cut him some slack please though I know you didn't mean anything by your jest. Our NY Dinner will take a back seat if something happens. We will still have it and I am still coming to NY but his plans could change. I might be looking for a couch to sleep on too if he has to be away......regards

I'm in Valley Stream, which is right on the Queens border and a pretty easy 35-minute ride into the city by train.
My wife's cousin and niece are coming over this weekend, but we could surely find you a bed. They can sleep on the couch.
And of course, you'd have to put up with my 4-year-old son's 3,000 questions. "Who's that, Daddy? Where did he come from? What he's doing here? Etc. My mother is in the ICU right now for the past 2 weeks with pneumonia and the prognosis is not good. She must of had it for months and did nothing about it. The infection spread to her blood and made her septic. She is out of it with a tube in her to help her breath. Posted By: DMcD
Dear Barry,
Have no wisdom for you, just gentle thoughts for an internet friend, a kind and decent man (in a sometimes unkind and indecent world). The days we dread since we're old enough to fathom the concept of death came for me in 2001 and 2002 when I lost both my folks. An era passed. I had to get used to it. It's hard, man. We hope we made our parents proud; even when we didn't they would forgive us anyway. I still feel their love. Goddamit-now I'm crying too.

I miss them in big and little ways every day still. My mom was a Brooklyn girl (Tilden HS class of '44, Brooklyn Jewish Nursing '47). The McDonald diaspora took her far away but she never stopped speaking like a trolley dodger. A couple of years ago my wife and I visited NYC. We were in Barney's on Madison Ave hoping they had a cafeteria. I asked a salesgirl, a tall, willowy Sex-in-the-City bomber, where we could get a bite and was startled when she replied in pure New Yawkese, "Thezza kawfee shop acraws the street." How I would love to be able to tell my mom that story; how she would have laughed! Rest in Peace, Mom.

Along with all your friends in our little baseball card community I hope the Sloate family is graced by peace in these sad days.

From the heart, man.

David McDonald

Until i was 6 years old i lived in Astoria, NY. my Ma & Da worked real hard for us to move out on Long Island. Ma's Dream was for us to live in the country. For the next 7 years i was able to live with a Ma that Loved me enough to last me a life time. When i was 13 she suddenly passed away, she had a stroke at 56 years young. Jan 4th is Ma's birthday. So, when January rolls around my thoughts always turn to Ma! My dearest Ma. i'm 48 now, & i still miss her... at times...terribly!
Always knowing though that her Love still remains with me. What a Blessing she was to me!

Time for a knee & a Prayer....

Life's Grand,
Denny Walsh
