Posted By: Ryan
Hello Network54 members,
I recently acquired a E90-2 Wagner. I was just curious if any members could comment on the rarity/scarcity of the card? And the population report with SGC and PSA? Any info. would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ryan

Posted By: barrysloate
It's a scarce card that for some reason shows up for sale with some frequency. It has risen in value dramatically over the last several years, so perhaps sellers are taking their profits.

Posted By: leon
I don't think this is necessarily any scarcer than any other E90-2. With that being said I think it's the same as many other of the key cards from scarce sets in that, if you are a type collector like myself, you will tend to keep this card and not let it go. I sort of try to have a nice card from each set and this is the one I kept. Since Clarke is the only other HOF'er in the set my choice was easy. I have shown this too many times to even think about but it's still funny to me that no one would buy it, on ebay, for $1000.....after the second listing, in the correct category, Bob Smith aka Trucker Boy, sold it to me off line and the rest is history....This is the only E90-2 that his dad had collected out of his 750+ cards....He must have liked it too......

Posted By: Joe D.
such an ugly card, I can't imagine why anyone would want one (yes - kidding)

I am with Barry.
The opportunities are out there to grab one - almost at all times. Seeing those opportunities might make someone think the card is more common than it actually is.

Peter - I don't know if they are any more common than the T206 (maybe they are / maybe not).
They are definitely offered up more often - and there are definitely fewer people who want the e90-2 than those who want the T206.

Either way - its an awesome card - congrats on the pickup.

Toughest Wagner portrait cards (excluding T206)?

E107
E103
Tip Top (or should tip top go before e103?)
E90-2

sound right?

Posted By: Tony N.
As of today, the SGC shows 31 E90-2 Wagners graded. It has the highest SGC population out of all the E90-2 cards they graded already.

Breakdown:
SGC 10 - 6
SGC 20 - 6
SGC 30 - 6
SGC 40 - 5
SGC 50 - 7
SGC 60 - 1

I agree with the responses alredy posted. This card is scarce, it just seems that the cards that were sold in the recent auctions, were the same ones that were sold a year or so earlier. Once these cards get into new collections, I don't think we will see them for sale as frequently as they are now. Just my two cents.

Thanks,
Tony
Posted By: scott brockelman
I agree that some of these recent E90-2's were made available by owners upgrading, it is however one of the more common Wagners of the time.

As we can see PSA and SGC have graded 63 E90-2 Wagners total with most being in the lower grade tiers.

Total grading pop for the Tip Top is 34, 17 with each service.

E103 is even tougher 15 PSA-10 SGC

E107 is by far the toughest PSA has graded 0, SGC 3, by my count there are less than 10 known.

Scott

Posted By: peter ullman
all interesting stuff...in light of the fact that 63 have been graded...who knows how many have been re-graded...I think my initial guess on # may be kinda close...100-150 copies? obviously there is no way to know how many there are ungraded...but I'd guess atleast as many as have been already graded. A small, scarce set like the e90-2 may be somewhat "easier" to speculate as to how many examples of each card may be out there compared to larger sets based on pop reports. Would it be fair to guess there are less than 200 of any e90-2? What do y'all think?

pete in mn

Posted By: Richard
Aside from the portrait Wagners already mentioned, there are probably at least a couple dozen Wanger issues far tougher than his E90-2.

The E90-2 Wagner is probably one of the most plentiful Wagners around.

Posted By: Paul
So, which Wagners are tougher than T206 and which are easier? On the easier side, I assume we can safely list M116, Cracker Jack, E90-1, E92 (at least with certain backs), E93, E95, E98, and E254.

On the tougher side, I'd certainly include the Reccius Wagner, the E107, the E300, the T216s, the D381 Ferguson/Fleischmann bakery cards, the M110, and the E125s.

Where do the others fit in, like E94, E103, E105, E135, etc.

Posted By: barrysloate
I would say there are more E94 than T206 out there, but E103 and E105 probably have less than 75 examples each known. I'm not sure about E135.

Posted By: Richard
I would say that collectively there are more E94 wagners than T206, but if you break it down by the 6 colors, there are far far less for any single color. The same can probably be said for E98s.

E90-1, E92 Dockman, E93, E95, E101 and E102 all have a population more than 75.

E92 Crofts Cocoa, Crofts Candy, E94 single colors, E98 single colors, E102 Throwing pose, E103, E104, E105, E106 and E107 I would say all have a population less than 75.

Posted By: Richard
I would also say that the following issues have a pop far less than the t206 Wagner:

E125 American Caramel
E135 Collins, Weil, Standard Biscuit
E224 Texas Tommy
E300 Plows

Posted By: Jeff Lichtman
Joe, those are great examples. Hard to believe the E103 is just a 3, however, especially when compared with the corners on the E90-2.

Posted By: robert a
From a collector's point of view, the e90-2 wagner is harder to find than the other e90-2s because it's more popular. Same with e90 Joe Jax and many other cards.

My opinion on D304 Wagner is that there's less than 50.

Rob

Posted By: Bob
The highest graded Wagner E94 by SGC is a 5 (60).
They are not that easy to find although granted they are not as scarce as the T206.

Posted By: Colt McClelland
I have owned both the E90-2 Wagner and the E104 Nadja Wagner (blank back version). Both cards show the same portrait on the front. My experience is that the E104 is much more scarce than the E90-2. Also, I have only seen the E104 Wagner with a blank back, although the Nadja back version is known to exist. E104 Wagner with the Nadja back would clearly be up there on the list of most scarce Wagner portrait cards.
