Posted By: Dave F
Can anyone explain to me exactly how SGC grades, or at least point out why these cards received authentic grades instead of 10's? Yes, they are pealing...but I have others pealing as well that are 10's (example with last scan)

Posted By: quan
the A and the 10 grade is really a crapshoot. On any given day it could go either way although there's a strong case the tenney should be a sgc10...but once the dahlen and mullen are As it's just natural to grade the tenney as such also.

imo there's really no incentive to send in beaters for grading, unless it's an important/expensive card.

Posted By: Dave F
Well SGC was definately rough on me this go around...but I guess thats par for the course...this Matty graded Authentic as well, and this Vaughn was a 10 (looked like a 20 or so anyway)

Posted By: Rob Dewolf
I should know this, but I don't: How does SGC typically handle Zeenuts with the coupons missing? The reason I ask is that the 1952 Num Num of Bob Kennedy below has the coupon cut off (as has every example I've ever seen), and it graded an "A." Yet the Butter Cream of Grove, below, has a corner clipped and was graded a 10. The bottom line is that each card had a portion cut off. I guess I see the difference between a coupon and just a corner, but that's why I was wondering whether Zeenuts without their coupons can receive a numerical grade.

Posted By: Dan Koteles
the Matty above is trimmed ,so why is it in a 10 holder? This is been a point of mine for along time. Cards were cut on corners making unique designs ,patterns, what not. THESE ARE TRIMMED And shouldnt be in any holder. Glue, tape , paper loss, constitutes
damage BUT NOT ALTERATION. I DO NOT buy rounded corner cards...THESE ARE ALL TRIMMED !!!!!

Posted By: Steve Murray
SGC gives a numerical grade to Zeenuts without the coupon. Not only will they give numerical grades they will sometimes designate 1911's and 1912's as being "Without Coupon" when those issues never had one.

SGC sent me six of these but in all fairness to SGC when I contacted them they readily agreed to re-holder them at no cost and they will pay postage both ways. They're going out Tuesday. (SGC is the best!)

Here's a 1913 numerically graded and propeerly designated "Without Coupon"

Posted By: Dan Koteles
this is an overall statment of my opinion, this is mine ,not belonging to you. NO CARDS THAT HAVE EDGES ALL OVER THE PLACE (being specific just for you )should be graded anything, okay Ken?

Posted By: Dave F

The Matty is not in a 10 holder. It was in a GAI holder at one time...but that doesnt hold much water with me. It was slabbed authentic by SGC as it should have probably been. I just have a problem when they aren't consistent on grading. If a e98 just has an issue with flakes, besides some natural wear...it should get into a 10 holder just like the four or five others I have that are in 10 holders....shouldn't matter what it gets submitted with.

Posted By: barrysloate
Clearly there is some subjectivity for the grade SGC 10. Most experienced collectors know what a 30 looks like, and what a 20 looks like. But once you get to a 10, almost anything is possible. One card may have a Mint front but significant paper loss on the back; another may have a clean back but five heavy creases.

When it comes to noticeable paper loss on the front, I guess it's a judgment call and there is some inconsistency, as Dave has pointed out.

Posted By: Dan Koteles
being accurate; sgc10 psa1 gai-1.....all that have the rounded corners are trimmed corners.these do not curl up in perfect roundness to the edges. These should all be deemed trimmed and get their "A"for the day.

Posted By: Dan Koteles
Ken- Leon and I have had this conversation a million times, i am very strong of my opinion on this issue. I will not own cards as such ,unless so extremely rare to be blessed with one. Thanks for letting me clarify. Happy New Year !

Posted By: Dave F
Dan-

Unfortunately I dont have the luxury to own cards that aren't of this nature. Most of the spendable money does go towards the family, as it should be in at least my case. I agree that the cards are ugly, but thats what is in my budget, and they are fine for me..I just wish the same consistancy among the grading when i have five more exactly like the dahlen mullen and tenny sitting in 10 holders.

Posted By: Dan Koteles
example only.Your budget is much greater then mine right now. i might be able to afford a T206 common in "A". I live in Flint Michigan ,I need not say more.

The cards I buy do have to give me total satisfaction of not being altered ,short, this, that, etc...

I once owned 27 Mayos with 3 Ansons and found out that 4 had color added and I sold them all for a 4-5 k loss AND REGRETTED it.But I didnt have a colored card.Iam a boarder and color card collecting freek. To each their own.
