Posted By: leon
Title says it all. Where is your favorite place to pick up cards? For me it's the major auctions and from friends and then ebay. The BST pages have been very good too....With all of the current talk about fraud I am sort of curious as to what folks think. best regards

Posted By: Jason L
is a fat guy that lives in a van down by the river! (Chris Farley SNL tribute, sorry)

honestly, it is now the BST
was Ebay but I have lost so many purchases that the competition no longer floats my boat as much as it used to.
The available info here, and developing relationships with people here has proven far more rewarding to me - so much so that I think I am more involved with the hobby than ever before.

Shows never did it for me. still don't.

Posted By: Rob
FAV place is the BST, but some people hit the refresh button every 5 seconds so usually when something i want comes up its gone within 38 seconds.

i get most of my stuff from ebay. 80-90% of the time i'm happy with my purchase. i'm learning who the good/honest sellers are, so that percentage of happy purchase experiences has continued to go up.

haven't been to a card show in forever, but i might be able to go to the national in chicago this year, so we'll see how that goes!

Rob

Posted By: Steve Murray
The BST is my fave. Because we are a community I have much greater trust in dealing with sellers and buyers off the BST. Many transactions with no bad experiences. This extends to transactions with board members even though the BST wasn't utilized. The Bay is becoming a snake pit for the unwary. Everytime I buy on ebay I have some concern unless it is with someone I have dealt with before.

Posted By: PC
Less on eBay, and more from the BST.

I have only had very positive experiences on the BST in numerous transactions. It would be difficult to have a bad experience with guys like Andy Becker, Keith O'Leary, and on and on (too many excellent people to mention everyone by name).

Posted By: Phil Garry
I would say ebay, followed by the National, followed by the auction houses, followed by the BST on Network 54 and finally some modern pick-ups on beckett.com.

Posted By: Mike
I only been on here a few weeks. I had a subscription to "VCBC". What happened to the mag ? I tried for a few years to contact Don? and get my money back on my unused subscription but never a reply.

I now subscribe to Old Cardboard and have all the back issues on their way.

How long has this site been up ?

I buy through major auctions like Mastro, Robert Edwards , etc and EBAY. Yes, I have also bought from Coach's Corner, but never again. I have never had an auto from them certified by another "expert". I'm probably out big time ( Babe and The Beatles).

BST (?)

Posted By: Jim VB
Mike,

Welcome aboard. I'm sure you'll like this site. It's like one big family. (You know... a little dysfunctional at times.)

You asked "BST (?)"

At the top of the page, second icon from the left, is a link for this forum's Buy/Sell/Trade boards. They are sorted by category/date, so you can look where you like.

As far as VCBC, I don't think they've published since mid-2004. I had a conversation with someone there a while back and the guy alluded to "when Don's health improves...", but 3 1/2 years seems like a total shutdown to me.
Posted By: Alan U
I wish I could say "I mostest like to found dem in my grandfather's attic", because a lot of "nice" cards sure do show up on ebay from there, but here's my favorites:

1. Shows, but there aren't any good one's where I live
2. Ebay
3. BST

-Alan

Posted By: Chris Counts
I get more stuff off eBay than anyplace. My favorite sellers are Mike Wheat, Steve Brandenburg (CSA cards) and Wayne Varner. Of the local (Bay Area) card shows, I like Mark McRae's San Laendro show the best, followed by the February show at the Cow Palace. I also buy cards from Kevin at Stevens Creek Cards, which is located in San Jose ... by the way, I highly recommend any of the sellers I mentioned. All are real pros and good guys as well ...
