Posted By: Ben
Hi,
I have been an eBay user for several years now and am seriously considering using a sniping program. Does anyone here use Gavelsnipe? Is it easy to use and reliable? Are there other programs you would suggest using over Gavelsnipe? All suggestions would be appreciated. THANKS!

Posted By: Jim Dale
I'm not currently using it but have in the past and never had a problem with it. There was chatter on another board of people having issue but I seriously think it was user error. I have no complaints and it was free the last time I used it.

Posted By: Gene Palmer
I've used GavelSnipe a few times with no problems. I do most of my sniping using JustSnipe however. It's gives you 5 free snipes a week. I've never had a problem with JustSnipe either. Here's the link just in case you're interested...

http://justsnipe.com/

Posted By: Iggy
I've been using Gavelsnipe now for about a year. I probably snipe about 30+ items a week. Works like a charm, occasionally one of my snipes does not go thru (on average about once every 2 or 3 months). When that happens, I get the message "ebay network error." Obviously, Gavelsnipe was a bit slow with my bid (and yes, I have adjusted my bid time, so that is not the problem). The percentage of snipes getting in as opposed to not, is great, so I'm more then satisfied. Great service and you can't beat the price...

But, if the item you are sniping is one of a kind (like a gem mint+ '66 Horace Clarke rookie card). Then you can put in a snipe using Gavelsnipe and another using Justsnipe. Of course, that would definitely prove that you should seek some therapy...

-Lovely Day, Iggy...
Posted By: Brian E.
I've used it a few times since I became tired of paying for Stealthbid service. I noticed with Gavelsnipe that my snipe bids hit approx 30 seconds before the auction closed whereas w/ Stealthbid it was closer to 3-5 seconds. I don't know if you can adjust the timing of Gavelsnipe or not.

Brian E.

Posted By: Mark T
In the preference tab on Gavelsnipe i believe you can type in any amount you want for the snipe to hit. I put in 8 seconds and it works every time.

Posted By: Jim Dale
You can modify the bid time, I also use 8 seconds and its never missed one for me.

Posted By: Pete Z.
My experience is similar to Iggy's. Every tenth or so snipe doesn't go through due to "network error". There was also one occasion where I placed a bid, and when I went to edit the bid (prior to the end of the auction) it wasn't listed on gavelsnipe for me to edit. Very frustrating and dangerous experience. Chalk it up to "what do you want from a free service?".

Posted By: Jim VB
Jim Dale,

You said: "There was chatter on another board of people having issue but I seriously think it was user error."

I started a thread on this board a month or two ago about this issue. It was NOT user error. I have used Gavelsnipe for about a year. I have made 450 or so bids and 6-8 times they have failed to place the bid. I'm obviously not talking about times that my bid has fallen below the current bidding range. I'm talking about times that my bid was substantially over the final selling price and they list thr reason as "Ebay network error."

One time they listed "Invalid Ebay password." In that instance, I had placed a string of bids for multiple items from the same seller. The failed bid came in the middle of the string. Hence, my password was "valid" on items 1,2,and 3, "Invalid" on item 4, and "valid" again on items 5-9.

Ben,

All problems aside, I like them as a company. They have had some problems with their servers getting through to Ebay, but it has been rare and seems better in the last couple of months. As frustrating as it is when they miss a bid, it is the internet we're talking about and sometimes you just don't get through. I'm mad when it happens, but I would still recommend them as a snipe service.

Posted By: DR
Gavelsnipe is failing about 10% of the time for me. At first, they stated issues connecting with eBay servers. However, tonight, for the first time, it states the reason was my bid was previously outbid. This would be fine but my snipes were twice what the cards sold for. Sorry JustCollect! It might be time to pay for another year of Justsnipe @ $5/month or $50 for a year of Bidnapper. In the few years I have been members of these sites, I can count the # of failed bids on one hand. With Gavelsnipe 10% is to much. Maybe I am exaggerating but it is over 5% easy! Maybe the time has come that entering 1 snipe is not enough for eBay bids. I enter double snipes (on multiple platforms) if an item is a must have at/or below my snipe price. Is anyone else having problems with Gavelsnipe and is there anything else I can do? How about another free snipe service or my backup that you know about? Any help would be appreciated. Snipe on!
