SGC Question

I know PSA & BGS does, used GAI when they just started up ,and no email. One more thing I asked them to slab the card authentic even if it was altered. I'm not to familiar with them will they do that. The cards are all PC I just want them protected. Posted By: <b>Doug</b><p>According to the SGC website 0-S means that the card was too short for the holder. Also, it's been a while since I submitted anything, but I don't recall getting an email with the tracking info. However, it did have the ship date posted when I pulled up my order status.

Posted By: <b>Phil Garry</b><p>Sorry I can't help you with SGC's return mailing process because I live about 40 minutes away and bring/pick-up all of my grading orders in person. I can tell you that they are always on time and, this is just a guess, but the O - S might mean that the card was not able to be graded or authenticated because the size was too small for the insert in the holder and would not fit well enough?<br /><br />I just submitted 48 cards this week for crossover service whioh had previously been graded by PSA. Glen was very helpful in getting my submissions through and we had a nice discussion about vintage cards during the process. I am looking forward to getting my cards back in a couple of weeks as I know SGC will be closed for a couple of days with the upcoming holidays. After this submission is complete, about 95% of my collection will be in SGC holders. They are the best!!!

Posted By: <b>T206Collector</b><p>....they won't charge you for the 0-S. They can't confirm it has been trimmed, but it looks funny enough that they don't want to encapsulate the card. You could opt for the authentic option. But, again, they shouldn't charge you for it -- I believe you get a refund for that one. And you should ask for it if they didn't, because I'm pretty sure that's their policy.<br /><br />I had a T206 Persons like that once. If you want you can return that card with your next order (please leave the rejection tag on the holder) and we will encapsulate it as A authentic, free of charge. Sorry for the mistake. Its because the card is short and even though they cant conclusively state that its trimmed, they dont want it holdered because it appears as though its trimmed due to its size. Hence, its too short to slab, but not necessarily trimmed.

Perhaps you can further clarify this issue for me as I have a T202 coming back to me from SGC deemed short...does SGC not holder them because they won't fit properly in the holder? or something else...? I assume something else since you indicated that SGC would holder the card as authentic...<br /><br />I don't see why a card that is short, probably due to factory cutting imperfections, would not be numerically gradeable and holderable(is that a word?)...<br /><br />that you again for your presence on the board and I must say that I love my T202's in SGC holders!<br /><br />Happy Holidays.<br /><br />Mike<br /><br />Thanks again

However if it is smaller then the allowable tolerance, even if we feel the card is not trimmed, it can only be holdered as authentic. To the best of my knowledge this has always been our standard, and is generally the standard with all the main grading companies. The allowable size difference (smaller) is very low maybe 1/32 of an inch (a little more or less on some issues).

Ive always understood that the reason for sgc's policy in that regard is so that there are no cards in sgc slabs that even "appear" to be trimmed even though they are not, in fact, trimmed.
