Posted By: JK
Thanks Matt - Im glad you took it as humorous. Too many people get their feather's ruffled too easily around here. Though I am serious about starting a 6th pickup thread in the next day or two - since it apparently doesnt matter how many pick up threads we have, Ive decided that I always want my cards to be first and the only way to insure that is to constantly start new threads everytime I get something.

Posted By: Ken W.
Deadball Paul,

Great PC's! Curious about the Champion Exhibit Ruth. My 2005 Standard Catalog dates that card to 1932, supposedly issued in conjunction with the 1932 World's Fair in Chicago. Why the discrepancy?

Also, ditto on that McGraw, JK!

Posted By: Paul
That's something I'm curious about too. I'm more of a postcard collector than Exhibits, but I knew it was one of Ruth's rarest cards, so I picked it up. I do believe the image is earlier than 1925. Maybe one of our Exhibits experts can shed some light.

Posted By: Robert S
Your picture comes from the collection of Mitsuhiko Fujita, grandson of Baron Denzaburo Fujita, who grew up watching and playing baseball in Kobe, Japan. According to Sotheby’s/SCP, which recently auctioned off his collection: “Young Mitsuhiko always carried his camera, taking as many photographs of both the Japanese and American baseball greats as he could. He then had the photographs developed, ready to be signed at the ballpark the following day.”

Your photo of Ty Cobb comes from November 1928, when Ty Cobb traveled to Japan with a few other Major Leaguers including Bob Shawkey and Herb Hunter. They were invited to Japan by the Mainichi Newspaper to train with and play 12 games with the Japanese Daimai team.

Here are other photos from the tour (from various sources), featuring Cobb, Shawkey and Hunter, as well as another featuring Cobb and the Damai team:

No, I don't own all these photos...I wish I did, though!

I will be crossing over to SGC and taking the downgrade when I get around to it (writing on reverse).

Very excited to get this one, as it has 4 of the more legendary characters of the deadball era on the same card!
Jax
Nap
Graney, and...
Larry!!!!

utterly fantastic!
