Posted By: Steve
...But schizophrenic as well?

I've been admiring this low-val, little respected set for several years and impressed by the rainbow of inks and different cardstock types (I'm a stripcard ho').

Recently, I've noticed two player photo sizes within the stamped border. This is confirmed by a consistent L border flaw present in all V1s (possibly a dinged plate). Also, I've observed subtle style differences in the text V1 (V1a, b) - on card #4 thusfar.

File this under 'dilligaf', but it's the subtle differences I find intriguing in this hobby.

For those not bored silly, note that V2 has larger images, readily noticable in Ruth's L heel/R hand and Gehrig's brim distances from the printed border. Incidentally, though unconfirmed, these idiosyncracies suggest a slightly lower resolution or focus in all V2s. I hope to obtain a Ruth #4 V2 this week to confirm this notion.

(All eight examples are authentic.)

Posted By: boxingcardman
I have the original art for the Bill Terry card. The original art has a larger image than the card itself. The wording is hand-lettered and the number was a sticker (It fell off the image but there is a stain where it was glued on). It would not surprise me if they redid the underlying plate once or twice, in the process changing the borders slightly. Perhaps the old plate got worn or damaged and the image had to be reshot.

Posted By: G. Maines
I have a Gehrig mini with a hat/border relationship similar to your type 1 example for the full size w517s. I'd be curious about others.
