Are Any of You Knowlegeable of "Parade Sportive" Photos?

Posted By: <b>Paul</b><p>I've had a Jackie Robinson from the Parade Sportive set for many years. Just yesterday, I picked up an Al Campanis. The designs of the two cards are quite different. The Jackie Robinson is taller and very slightly narrower than the Al Campanis. The Robinson has an ad at the bottom, and the Campanis doesn't. The text underneath the "Parade Sportive" name at the top is different on the two cards. Also, the stock of the Campanis is a little yellower than the stock of the Robinson (possibly just due to age).<br /><br />Do any of you know if the pictures were issued in these two different styles? At first, I thought the ad was cut off of the Campanis. But the Campanis is too large for that. It's smaller than the Robinson, but not that much smaller. Also, to complicate things further, the Robinson pictured in the Standard Catalog has no ad at the bottom. I can't tell whether it has the same text at the top as my Robinson or the same text as the Campanis. <br /><br />Any help would be appreciated. I've posted scans below. (Unfortunately, my scanner has somehow normalized the two scans so that they both appear to be the same height -- they're not.) Ignore the extra paper on the right border of the Robinson. Without measuring, I assume it's the 5x9.5. <br /><br />Perhaps each of your examples was issued a different year? I suppose one would need a more complete checklist and some rosters to say for sure.<br /><br />Richard.

Posted By: <b>mark bowers</b><p>Paul:<br /><br />Dont know if this will help much but my Robinson is a tad larger than some of the others (I have all but one in the set)and is the exact same size as others.<br /><br />Also, your Robby has a "Les Galleries" ad at the bottom where mine is the same style as the rest of the set - no ad. I am afraid yours could be a promo piece using the original issue. There is no ad on any of the rest of my group.<br /><br />There is also a 3/12 X 5 inch card of the Robinson - clearly a reprint (exactly the same as my large one) and also without the ad.<br /><br />Finally, my Robinson is also a bit whiter than the balance of the set.<br /><br />It is my understanding that these were issued between 1944 and 1947.<br /><br />Mark<br /><br />P.S. Is Les Galleries Lucy Favreau Antiques ? Might explain the ad.

My Campanis is all upper case while the rest are all over the place I.E. letter of first name in caps and rest of name lower case with all caps last name or first letter of both names in caps and balance of names lower case and so forth. <br /><br />There seems to be no ryme nor reason to print or exact size due I suspect to the year of issue or some such thing.<br /><br />Some also have "photo Parade Sportive" in black on the actual picture and some dont. The headings on some are different than others as well. The Robinson for example has CHLP in caps at the top where the Campanis has some statement in French.<br /><br />Confusing ?<br /><br />Mark<br /><br />P.S. Lucy Favreau normally has Parade Sportives for sale (or bid) but they are usually hockey. I havent seen BB in a long time.

Why would anyone creating a forgery insert an extra ad at the bottom? Maybe, like you said, it was some kind of promo piece.<br /><br />Dave, did you forget to include the quote from the Trader Speaks article?

Posted By: <b>David Davis</b><p>I remember going to Montreal with my family in the late 70's and visiting Andrew Pywowarczuk (the author of the Trader Speaks article Dave posted) at his home. Top notch guy that made time to answer the questions about cards from a teenager.

Posted By: <b>Paul</b><p>Thanks Dave. I think the article answers my question. The ad was present on the photos issued by one radio station, but not on the photos issued by another radio station.
