Posted By: howard
Cool piece...I love the cornucopia of cards on the cover! Even so, the price does seem high to me. Does the inclusion of pictures of the Wagner card make it particularly valuable?

Posted By: Richard L.
Vintage Burdick guide, nice shape, T206 Wagner featured (valued at 50.00). Three different bidders at 300.00 and above. Not sure if this is the going rate, but I'm not surprised, nice item. If I recall correctly a 1939 version, somewhat tattered, offered by a major auction house, went for a couple grand a few years back.

Posted By: Todd Schultz
I'll have to dig mine out--it has the same color cover only orange, and I think it's from 1953 also. I paid $30-35 on ebay a few years ago, and it wasn't mislisted in any way.

Posted By: dan mckee
I guess I am the idiot selling the original 1939 version to Bill Mastro this weekend for $900. Anytime Bill buys from me I know I had the item marked way too low! He is a genius! Oh well, I hope he does well at auction. Dan.

Posted By: Jeff O
.... mine sold for $27 on eBay in 2004... and you could have bought the 1946 from me the same week for another $57 and combined the two to save on shipping. I won't even tell you what I sold my 1939 for... but it was a lot less than the $900 mentioned by someone else.

Oh well, easy come, easy go.

Jeff

Posted By: Rob Dewolf
Joe,

That's odd -- or quite possibly I'm not reading the description correctly -- because there's a 1939 edition of the American Card Catalog being offered in a current major auction. Yet the Leland's description -- at least the way I read it -- implies that the 1953 edition was the first. In fact, in addition to the 1939 edition, there's also an edition from 1946 being offered currently.

What am I missing? Anyone?

Posted By: Rob Dewolf
Jim,

Yes, that's correct. I didn't mention the editions from 1953 and later being offered in the run because those don't really have anything to do with the question about why Leland's description indicated -- again, the way I read it -- that 1953 was the "First edition" of the ACC.

Thanks, Rob

Posted By: Larry
<Outside of price guides etc, how big is your library?

I have about 100 price guides and a little over 2000 books (all different subjects) in my library. Over 1000 of the books are signed by the authors.

<The Bill Mastro's, Larry Fritsch's, Rob Lifsons to name a few people,
what they know about cards, many of us would kill for
But, one day they will be gone & all their knowledge with them
<Pretty sad in my opinion

They have a ton of hobby, auction and business knowledge. But so do a lot of other people who have been collecting and selling for 40 or 50 years.

Posted By: henry moses
I think the price for the 1953 was a blip perhaps sparked by recent discussion here or just a continued move to ancillary items of historical significance. I've passed on this more than once in the over 100.00 range but 100.00 - 175.00 might be the general current range. I noticed that Lew Lipsett is sporting a "full run" but must note that the 1956 catalog is not listed in the run. As for the 1939 (there is a slightly earlier version as well - not typeset!) there appear to be more than 15-20 known. I would think that it's RELATIVE value should be in the 1000.00 range when it isn't such a hot topic. Dan; I'm not happy. That would be about what I was willing to spend......
