Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
It's been 11 months since I first embarked on this adventure to put together an all-Sovereign set. It was a real
labor of love, since I realized very early in the game that a good number of T206 subjects were not printed with
the Sovereign brand. So, an additional challenge was to research which ones were not printed.....otherwise, I'd
never be confident that I completed this set. To that end, I've discovered 66 cards that I refer to as "No-Prints".

Now that it is 99.3% complete, I derive a certain sense of satisfaction as I flip the album pages of this set; and,
there is a complete field of GREEN backs, rather than the usual "rainbow" array of T206 backs.

Consider this, this 404 card Sovereign set requires none of the "Big Six"....no 48 Southern Leaguers....and, there
are 66 No-Prints.....therefore, 404 different T206 Subjects comprise this basic set. Can you beat that ?

Furthermore, if you include the Six Super-Prints with their very tough Sovereign 460 backs, then you have the
"ultimate" Sovereign set consisting of 410 cards.

So, I still need the following 4 cards; and, any help will really be appreciated....

Ball (NY).........150 series
Campbell.........350 series
Jim Collins.......350 series
Red Cobb........460 series (super-print)

Last Series (52 cards)....which includes the very tough 6 super-prints with Sovereign 460 backs (missing Red Cobb).

See guys....I even have a few Graded cards in this set....12 to be exact.

But, you have to love all these....there's nothing like touching little pieces of cardboard depicting your favorite BB players.

TED Z collection

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
PAUL

First, let me add that I have enhanced this set with 5 (of the 6) super-prints (s-s) that were issued in the
last series having the rare Sovereign 460 backs.
And, keep in mind, that I have all 6 of these (s-s) cards with Sovereign 350 backs as part of this basic set
of 404 different subjects.

I need 3 cards (Ball, Campbell and Jimmy Collins) from the basic set; therefore, I currently have 401. I have
depicted in the "Sovereign 460" scan (in my initial post on this thread) the 5 s-s cards that I have added to
the basic set....hence, I now have 406 cards....it's that simple.

So, I need 3 (basic cards) and 1 s-s (Cobb) to give me a grand total of 410 cards.

For anyone reading this who is unfamiliar with the term "super-prints" as applied to the T206 cards, the fol-
lowing scan shows these 6 cards. Scot Reader identified these 6 subjects from the 350/460 series as having
been printed with more backs than any other T206's. Also, these subjects are unique within their series, as
they can be found with American Beauty 350 (with frame) backs. None of the other subjects in the 350/460
series exist with this back.

TED Z

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
That is a very good question that you have just asked......"Or is the Sovereign back collection the least expensive T206 back approach".

Off the top of my head, I'd say....for starters, if you can avoid the high cost of the Big Six and the 48 So. Lgers (as is certainly true with
this Sovereign set)....then, for a T206 sub-set of 400+ cards, this one has to be the most affordable.

Now, don't ask me how many $$$$ I have spent acquiring all these cards ?

I can say for sure, it was less expensive than when I put together my all-Piedmont set.

TED Z

This all-SOVEREIGN set is my 4th T206 set in the past 26 years.

Has anyone ever put together a T206 "Super-Set"....I would think Bill Heitman has had enough T206's in his research
back in the '70s that he, perhaps advertently (or inadvertently), accumulated enough T206's to have one.

I have now started on a sub-set of AMERICAN BEAUTY 460 cards. It's a challenge; however, it's a small undertaking
as there are only 75-100 possible subjects to collect.

Thanks for your nice words,

TED Z

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
I've been very fortunate these past 11 months while putting together this set, as there've been 3 large Sovereign finds.
One from upstate NY (340 cards), a second in Connecticut (approx. 300 cards), and a third from western Pennsylvania
(280 cards). So, I'd say without these three finds, I would be at best only 50% complete at this point in time.

More importantly, I would be remiss, if I did not list all the Net54er's that have helped me with acquiring many of these
Sovereign's for my set. So, here goes....THANKS GUYS.....

Scot Reader
Barry Sloate
Brian Weisner
Steve Murray
Art Martineau
Scott Brockelman
Lee Behrens
Ed McCollum
Judson Hamlin
T206Collector

And, Irv Lerner, Peter Lalos, and Al Schiff

TED Z

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
Regarding your earlier question......"Are you going for a T206 super set, one back at a time?"......

I think the challenge of doing this nowadays would be an enormous undertaking for any one individual to try.
Back in the 1960's and '70s when Bill Heitman (and others) were accumulating 10's of 1000's of T206's for just
"pennies", it was very possible.

However, to do this now in a sequential manner (as you alluded to with your question) is virtually impossible.
Perhaps, my Grandson (21 years old) could carry on this "baton", and assemble a T206 Super Set by age 40.

However, in a multi-collector, parallel manner, it is not impossible. And, that is exactly what is ongoing with
several Net54 members.

I have a "complete" 518-card all-Piedmont set (missing the Big 4) and will soon have a complete 410-card
all-Sovereign set. Meanwhile, Lee Behrens has a near complete CYCLE 460 sub-set and last time I checked,
RayB is putting together an El Principe de Gales set. And, I am sure there are other Net54er's doing their
favorite T-brand sub-set.

And, now I've embarked on an American Beauty 460 set; and, I'm sure that I'll eventually expand this quest
to an all-American Beauty sub-set. Just with these five examples that I have noted here, we are proceeding
onwards; but, we need a lot more participants in this big adventure.

Thanks for asking,

TED Z

Posted By: RayB
Ted - Thanks. A little slow lately. I'm just shy of 70 different. I'm not willing to buy or "bid to win" at all costs and I'm also passing on some of the higher grade examples due to cost.
Pigeon holing myself a bit like this slows the wheels of progress but it is fun. I traded for a nice Wagner bat on Right Shoulder today with a collector that is building a Polar Bear back specific set.
So I am sure there are others who haven't outed themselves on their back specific efforts.
Do you have any additions to the EPDG spreadsheet over the last couple of months? I could use an update if you have one.
If you just want to bring the EPDG thread back to the top updated that would be fine too.
Warm regards,
RayB

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
As you noted, I have started a new Thread listing 276 confirmed EPDG subjects in the T206 set. Please ex-
amine it closely and compare it with your collection; and, tell me if you have any additional ones.

I was very fortunate in completiing my Piedmont and my Sovereign sets. In the process I purchased 2 large
Piedmont finds. And, while I was assembling the Sovereign set, there were 3 Sovereign finds, from which I
acquired a lot of cards.

Unless, a big find of 100 - 200 EPDG cards are discovered, your your task will certainly be more difficult in
finding approx. 300 cards with EPDG backs. All our previous Surveys have shown how tough this T-brand is.
Just be patient, it will take you several years and it will be worth it. Email me your list and I will try to help
you with these T206's.

Good luck,

TED Z

It's been a great adventure.....but now, it's somewhat frustrating that I am down to one card that I have not seen
this past year when I first started this set. And, I'll tell you, between ebay and shows, I have looked at 100+ Red Cobb's and not even a hint
of a Sovereign 460 back. In fact, it took me quite a while to find the Sovereign 350 version of this card.

Eventually, the 460 card will show up and then I'll be complaining it costs too much.....I'm hoping an ungraded one in Vg-Ex (or less) shows up.

TED Z
