Posted By: Bob
The Yankees have trouble with power pitchers, therefore Byrd pitching for Cleveland plays right in to their hands. I like the Yanks tomorrow night in Game 2. The Moose is a veteran who can win the big game, so it all boils down to CC vs. Andy P. at the Jake for all the marbles.
P.S. Is there a bigger ass in all of baseball (excluding Bud Selig) than Steinbrenner? He is Donald Trump's evil brother. Joe Torre has more heart and class in his pinkie than George does in all of his body.

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
As a long time Yankees fan (since 1947), I agree with you 200% (if that's possible) regarding Steinbrenner.
I really loved Billy Martin and his style of managing. Actually, my fondness for Billy goes back to the 1952 World Series, where Billy's
famous catch in the 7th game) saved it for the Yanks. And, Billy single-handedly beat the Dodgers in the 1953 WS.....batting .500
with 12 hits, 2 HR's and 8 RBI's. I met Billy in 1982 and we had a very nice conversation. Sure Billy was a character, but then BB has
had many such characters. But, he didn't deserve the way that Steinbrenner treated him in the late '70s and early '80s.

TED Z

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
Correct me if I am wrong, guys......but, I heard that Mussina was to start this game tonite ?

The decision to go with Wang had to be a typical Steinbrenner "overriding" move. I have followed this team too long, not to know
that this is the case.

Stay tuned to WFAN....660 AM dial from NY....Mike and the Mad-Dog will get all the behind the scenes scoop, tomorrow.

TED Z

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
According to the "babbling" on WFAN last nite and this AM, as reported by Bill Madden....my guess was pretty accurate......
Torre had scheduled Mussina to start last nite.
And, either Stein-grabber or Cashman overruled Torre and and forced the Wang start. This is sheer "micro-management B-S",
that Torre could not go with his man.

Furthermore, Pettitte (one of the most effective post-season pitchers ever) should have started game #1. I didn't understand
going with Wang in the 1st game. Pettitte would have won game #1 and the Yankees would at least have another game left.

I should have managed the Yankees this past week, because I wouldn't have let Stein-grabber control the events on the field.
All those freakin DP's....if they did some base stealing....the DP's would have been avoided. How many times did they have guys
on 1st and 3rd ?

That's an automatic steal situation....any 8-year old Little Leaguer will tell you that.

TORRE STAYS......STEIN-GRABBER and CASHMAN GO ! ! ! ! ! ! !

T-Rex TED

Posted By: Matt
NYers whining.

Ted - you seem to blame both Torre and Steinbrenner - you can't blame the lack of stealing with runners at the corners on Steinbrenner; that's Torre. Also, the abismal BA with runners in scoring position is on the players. Face it; the Yankees got taken o0ut behind the barn and beat.

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
My feeling exactly....I don't want to see Torre dismissed.....he doesn't deserve that type of treatment. With all the "pomp &
circumstance" of a Press conference announcing Torre's departure. I still remember what Stein-grabber did to Billy Martin in
the late '70s and the '80s.

T-Rex TED

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
We must of been posting simultaneously....I didn't see your post. Anyhow, you are somewhat correct.

1st....I blame Steinbrenner for the BAD pitching decisions....because he has done this in the past. There is no doubt in my mind
that Pettitte should have pitched the 1st game in Cleveland. He has one of the best October pitching records (in recent years).
And, to further reinforce this contention is that, although Wang did have a pretty good record, most of his wins were at Yankee
Stadium.

And 2nd....I don't understand why Torre didn't have these guys stealing 2nd, I'm not aware that Shoppach possessed a rifle arm ?
It certainly would have distracted the Clev. pitchers and avoided all those DP's that the Yankees hit into.

But, in October the pitching is the foremost issue and how you schedule your moundsmen is very critical....especially if you do not
have a formidable staff (which the Yankees did not this season).

TED Z

Posted By: Brett
It isn't hard to figure out. the Yankees had crappy pitching and hitting at the same time ! A-Rod choked again... surprise surprise... actually, the whole middle of the order did too !

The yankees need to start spending their money on younger pitchers and not blow $28 million on a washed up clemens.
