Posted By: davidcycleback
After the previous post, it seems only fitting to have a thread where board members can post a pic of a card that they consider a work of art. As a psychological process, art perception necessarily involves subjectivity and personal opinion, so there's no reason to hesitate to give your personal opinion.

As a photo collector, I'll post a 1954 Herbie Scharfman photo of Ezzard Charles versus Rocky Marciano, and one that isn't beautiful, at least not in the Vivien Leigh sense.

Hardly. A tragedy.

http://books.google.com/books?id=grybHq6sAX4C&pg=PA219&lpg=PA219&dq=herb+score+eye&source=web&ots=Cwbv7np8OA&sig=upyZ8IwBDURv4oLe4bFMn9l-KTg#PPA219,M1

Posted By: Joann
I'll put in this one. It may not be what David had in mind by art.

Every time I look at this card I marvel at what the artist, manufacturers and technology were able to do for a freebie insert. I can't believe how detailed and almost life-like it is. It may not be art in the conceptual sense, but to me it is art in that the execution of the (arguably non-artistic) concept is so perfect.

It's nowhere near my collecting focus, but I'll probably always hang on to it.

Joann

The black hat, the blue gray colors, white shirt. But as you can tell there is no way to paint this guy in a positive light.
