Posted By: Brian McQueen

This has always been one of my favorite minor league sets. I'm not actively collecting the set right now but still pick up a card here and there. I was curious if others were working on it right now and how far along you were. Thanks much,

Brian
redmaccie@hotmail.com

Posted By: Patrick McMenemy
I picked up all the catcher pose cards just before the set took off. For once, I was slightly ahead of the pack.

Patrick

Posted By: leon
Since we are here I figure a 1911 Zeenut question is relevent. Why is Halla so tough? Is it because folks that have one don't want to part with him or was he possibly short printed? I know he's the only horizontal which could account for something. In the Trucker Boy find I had about (120) 1911 Zeenuts and Halla was in there just like it was a regular card. My recollection is Bohen is the only one that is almost impossible to find? regards

Posted By: Bob
Leon- I think Halla was produced in equal numbers with the other cards but because it is a horizontal card, people flock to it. Now there are some cards in the set which make you scratch your head because you never see them for sale like Fullerton, Bernard and a few others. I wonder if Mark Macrae might know the answer to this, if there were a short printing of some cards...
tb

Posted By: Brian McQueen

Good question. I suppose I would consider the Halla to be more of a "circumstancial toughie" rather than a card that is truly scarce. I know of a few set collectors that already have this card and then I also know 3-4 people who have it that aren't going after the set. No one really wants to part with it since it's a neat pose and while we all acknowledge there would be a premium for this card...the question is "how much?". Since one hasn't been made available for a while, there's no real benchmark for it. But yes, like TBob was saying, the horizontal pose makes the Halla popular and people don't really want to part with it, however it is out there. It's sort of like the Weaver and the Miller cards. These are all cards that are out there in circulation, yet are tougher to come by because of one reason or another because people find something about these particular cards that make them want to hang on to them.

If that makes sense at all....

On a sidenote, I expected a little more activity on this thread. Are people really not collecting this set too much right now? A few months back, there was quite a fervor over these cards and it seemed like half the board was going after this issue....

Posted By: Zeenut
I buy 1911's when I see them, which is not too often these days. When 1911 Zeenuts were really "hot" a few monthes ago it seemed like there were more for sale.

Matt

Posted By: Bob
Brian- I think there are 4 or 5 guys who have gone about as far as they can go with the set, which means they need 8-15 cards to complete it and those cards just ain't popping up anywhere. It's frustrating because when I was fooling around buying some 1911s about 5 years ago, which I later sold, I had 4 of the 10 I now need and can't find (Miller, McKune, Bernard and Fullerton).
tbob
