Posted By: Paul
Do you folks think the decisions of many Board members not to bid has had much impact? The following lot sure looked like it went way below market value to me and pushed temptation close to the limit:

http://www.scpauctions.com/scpauctions/LotDetail.cfm?Lot_ID=12476

Posted By: Steve M.
Considering that this version "Phila's" sold at the August Mastro auction in SGC 10 for $4,339.00 something happened.

Edit: And that was just for the Delahanty.

Posted By: Mike
I usually at least look at the catalog from SCP... I got about 4 emails in the last few days from them about their auction and each one was promptly deleted...

Posted By: JK
Low price - true. But let's not forget that the delahanty is in worse condition than the delahanty that sold previously and that the other two cards in the lot were trimmed and skinned respectively (I know SCP described one of the cards as being merely "miscut", but you have to wonder considering it is not in a slab).

Posted By: Anthony
I would've gone pretty hard for a couple of lots, but stopped after I read about Ryan's problems with them. I suspect a lot of other people did as well.
It's not like there is a shortage of auction houses these days.

Posted By: J Levine
I put in two low bids and then when I was outbid, I just decided not to bid partially b/c of what happened to Ryan...The two lots went for less than what I had anticipated my high bid being...so I can guarentee that SCP/Soth. lost money on this auction.

Joshua

Posted By: leon
The Delehanty had a pretty darn nice looking front. The Welch was probably factory miscut, from looking at the scan, imo. I think you could add at least a few thousand to this lot if it weren't in a tainted auction....again, just my opinion...

Posted By: Joseph
After placing five initial bids, I was going to bid on 2 lots at closing time...until the Ryan thing.

I might have been a winner on one.

Posted By: Wesley
Were there good deals aside from the N172 Delahanty? I thought prices were pretty strong on most prewar.

The way SCP dealt with Ryan's problem was crap, but just wondering whether the auction was affected overall.

Posted By: Jeff Lichtman
Yeah, the prices were strong. As Jim noted, the Green Cobb was off the charts -- a PSA 7 version sold for $17K in REA in the Spring and last night's went off for twice that (granted, the card was incredible).

Posted By: Tim Newcomb
I haven't bothered to look myself at many of the prices, but the lot of 21 T207 I had marked before Ryan's post went for about $50 a card, which I thought was quite low given the number of scarcities it had.

I'm sure there were many healthy prices-- but even if only SOME lots went lower than expected, the house has reason to be concerned. Several people in this thread stated flatly they did not bid again specifically because of the debacle--who knows how many others did the same? That is lost business-- any auction house that paid no attention would be just stupid. The next time SCP auctions something, I'm sure there will be some folks eager to remind board members about what happened to Ryan, so it's not going to end here. Sotheby's may be so big they don't care, but SCP would be crazy not to take note--

Incidentally I thought it showed a total lack of class (if there were any doubts) that nobody from SCP had the guts to post any response to the threads about Ryan's photo.

Posted By: Eric B
They clearly lost out on some bids this time.

The biggest impact will be by those who use other auction houses next time specifically because they may get less bids.

Posted By: Cobby33
Who picked up the T206 Sweeney, no red ink? I forgot that SCP closes lots individually, so I missed out. Someone seems to have gotten a pretty good deal on that one.
