Posted By: Jeff Lichtman
David, I appreciate your point but it's a small price to pay to give Leon something back for the time and expense he incurs by moderating the site. He's not getting rich from the advertisting but it defrays his costs and compensates him (slightly) for providing us this forum. Plus what could be better than being constantly reminded about the upcoming Barry Sloate auction -- an auction that until recently was taking bids by Pony Express but is now so modernized that it has its own banner ad?
Posted By: leon
I spoke about the new banners several times. There is a new one at the top. Heritage is our newest sponsor and their banner is rather eye catching. I think there will be some tweaking to the top of the page in order to make it look better....we are still fine tuning it. As for the inch you lost if you scroll the inch down you will see it. A lot of websites are like that. If it can be tweaked to get it back to the top it will be....Thanks for noticing too....The banners are working though I don't want it to be too distracting......best regards

Posted By: jP
they dont bother me as much. it kind of adds some color to the forum. Leon you ever thought about switching the background color of the forum. not that the current one is bad, just maybe something to spice it up. Like my mom who was a stay at home mom she would switch up the furniture like once every two months. cant blame her she was getting tired of seeing her house look the same. love u mom!

my collection: http://s102.photobucket.com/albums/m95/obaks/

Posted By: leon
We are making quite a few changes pretty quickly and my techy guy is very busy outside of work on other things right now. The next thing we will change is having the "How to Identify Alterations and Forgeries" tab....then some housekeeping...I want to try to take out some of the verbiage at the top of the page (not sure if anyone reads it anyway) and make it smaller up there...so we can see more threads as we could before the new top banner went up....it takes time though. Thanks for yours and everyone's patience in the matter. We really are putting some time into trying to make it better....

Posted By: Joseph
I'd estimate that over 95% of the time most users spend on this forum there's no
ad on the page. The reality is that once you get past the home page and/or a specific
thread's page all one's time is spent scrolling down an ad-free page.

Let's try not to complain too loud lest the advertisers figure this out.

Posted By: JimB
I like the ads. They sometimes alert me to things I would have otherwise missed. I agree that the flashing ones are a bit annoying. But I, also, fully support Leon' and Brian's ability/right to get a little compensation for the time they put into this site.
JimB

Posted By: Bob Pomilla
Maybe I just go through life oblivious, but I never even realized there was a second ad until it was pointed out. Where's the problem, anyway? Have more important issues in this world than nitpicking.

Posted By: barrysloate
Hey, I can't begin to tell you how much fun I'm having- no matter where I go on the board, I see my name on the top. Now that's heaven!

Of course, I realize I am the only one who feels that way

Posted By: Jim VB
(Nobody else read!)

Are you guys nuts! The advertisers read this board too! Don't tell them you don't "notice" the banner ads! Geeesh!

(Note to all)

I enjoy seeing the various ads. I think they add much to the life of the board.

Posted By: Dave Hornish
We are all using a free forum/website; how can you complain about a couple of banner ads which, in the grand scheme of things, could provide you with something you need for your collection? Again, this site is FREE...

Posted By: jay behrens
If you have Firefox, there is a add-on called Grease Monkey that can remove any content you don't like on a page. It also has premade set ups for sites like eBay that puts in a tab for just negatives in a person's feedback. It's a great feature that I highly recommend.

Jay

The richest person is not the one who has the most, but the one who needs the least.

Posted By: Paul S
All the banner ads open in a new browser window, except Barry's, which opens in the same window and so takes me away from the board. I'll assume that is an unintentional oversight. I click on Barry's since it states the his new auction ends 9/20, but hey Barry, when does it begin? Or is this only happening to me? (At least you now know I actually click on these things!)

*edited for lots of types of mistakes
