Posted By: Jason L
I fancy myself (I should just stop this sentence here, no?) as a guy who doesn't get too far into the heavy issues here, as I can't afford to, for the most part.

So, here's this Friday's casual question, as I continue to try and get to the heart of the collecting public's pysche:

Your favorite card of all time (that you have owned) since you started collecting...think of it.

Got it?

Now, do you still own it? Why not?

Did it become your favorite while you owned it, or once you got rid of it (if you did?)

edited for spelling and grammaratically mistaken problemos

Posted By: Bob
I think "the" favorite card changes from time to time. I guess the card which is presently my favorite is an exmt T207 Lowdermilk with red Cycle back. That haunting image on the card makes it great, so great that I just recently purchased a framed print with accompanying autograph of Lowdermilk matted with the picture.

Posted By: JK
Interesting question. I still own my favorite card (t227 cobby), though I cant say that I wouldnt ever sell it. I will also admit that there are a bunch of cards out there that could very easily become my favorite card - I actually love the e93 matty, but my own copy of the card is not going to catapult it to number 1 because IMO that is one card that just needs to be higher grade to truly appreciate. Sadly mine is only a 40. Jim B's violet e94 young also comes to mind

Posted By: peter chao
The bad thing about having a boatload of stuff is that it takes up a lot of space...an entire room plus 1/4 of the garage. However, there is a plus side, I have plenty of stuff to trade and I try to avoid trading away anything significant to my collection.

So far I still have all my prewar cards that I have purchased or traded away for. My favorite cards are the T206 Mattys White Cap and Dark Cap, simply because they were some of my first prewar cards and because they are an attractive combo.

Peter C.

Posted By: leon
Since I am a type collector and have been very fortunate to get some really rare cards (imo) it would be hard to pick one. I guess the FBH would be it if I had to choose only one. I was looking at the gem mint photo on my N690 National Phili team card yesterday and it almost could be. I hope I am able to keep them until I sell my collection as it would take a little bit of the steam out of me to get rid of them....but then there's the t231 and Bishop team cards...and the AWA caramel..or the Red Cross Weaver....or the....yes, I am hopelessly addicted....maybe we should really start a cardolholics anonymous program....??

Posted By: Paul S
T206 Cobbs, bat on and bat off. Got them both as the same time when I was a kid, and still vividly remember all the cirucmstances surrounding it and getting them home. Still have them. Can't say they are my all time favorites but certainly my feelings about them are.

Posted By: Jerry
I'm like Bob, My favorite card changes from time to time. My favorite card in my collection now is this N173 Keefe. I love the image and the card is top condition.
The card that I have seen recently that gave me goose bumps was the Horner Cabinet of Speaker in a recent Mastro.
But the Keefe would be the one today.
The spot above his head is not a pinhole, just a small spot on card.

Posted By: peter chao
Jason,

If you store cards in your garage you need to be careful, it's a good idea to put a blanket on the ground before you put boxes of cards on top. The blanket will absorb moisture that sometimes accumulates on the garage floor.

But generally, I keep my favorite cards in my hobby room where I can enjoy them periodically.

Daniel,

Your wife got you a '52 Mantle!!!!! I'm going to print out your post and leave it on the kitchen table...maybe my wife will get the hint.

Peter C.

Posted By: joe brennan
I sold my all time favorite card. Does that mean I lost love for it? Absolutely not. I just felt at the time I had to act on a deal that I couldnt pass up. Will I re purchase one in the near future? Only if I sell some more to finance the purchase, I robbed Peter ( no not Peter Chaoism) to pay Paul. Here's my sale and my purchase.

Purchase...3 HOF Rookie cards that will sky rocket in years to come
Plus there were the last 3 to finish my 63 Fleer football in all 7-8
with all key cards in 8 exept the Bounitconti which jut sold for under a grand in PSA 8. Posted By: Daryle
My favorite card that I own I guess would be the N28 Cap Anson (sorry, no scan). I started collecting in 1982 and saw those Dover reprint books with the N28s and fell in love with them. As an 11 year-old kid I dreamed of owning the card, or just owning a card from the set. Heck, even thought I would never even see real card from the set. The Anson wasn't the 1st card I owned from the set though, Jake Kilrain, boxer was the 1st, included in collection that I bought. The first baseball players I owned were the Kelly and Comiskey, purchased in a single deal from Kit Young (thanks Kit). I now have the complete 50-card set and it is probably my favorite all-time set.
