Posted By: David Smith
Here is the eBay item number: 150143032643.

For the new people to the board or new collectors of vintage cards, read the auction description and all the information the seller has about the card, especially the info about value. Then ask yourself WHY he hasn't had the card graded??

Don't you think even on the off hand chance the card is real the seller could come up with the cash to get the card graded?? I mean, he knows about the grading companies? Anyway, here is what I E mailed him. I can't wait to see the response (if any).

"Let me get this straight. You KNOW the best condition T206 Honus Wagner recently sold for over $2.3 million dollars. You also know there are about 60 in existence and even the POOR condition ones are worth a lot of money yet you DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO GET YOUR CARD GRADED??

I KNOW the reason you haven't got your card graded is because it is a reprint and not worth the listing fees you paid eBay to have this auction.

Kindly remove your card or at least say it is a reprint or put it in the category for reprints because ANYONE who knows T206's and especially Honus Wagner T206's will KNOW this card is a fake. So what YOU are trying to do is SCAM an unknowing person.

I am reporting this to eBay."

The one thing I HATE about this hobby/business is people who try to STEAL money from unknowing collectors. I hope there is a special section of HELL for greedy people who prey upon ignorant people.

Thanks for letting me rant. I will now get off of my soapbox.

David

Posted By: brian
i was just wondering, since no shipper will insure an item for more than $25,000, does that mean you would have to carry an item clear across the country personally to have it graded? there are a lot of people who won't send valuable cards in to grading companies because they are afraid they'll be lost or stolen, regardless of the security of registered mail, and regardless of whether or not they'll be reimbursed for the full insured value.

Posted By: David Smith
This is the sellers response:

"As regard to the Honus Wagner you needed to report - don't be a retard! Get your facts straight before going off the handle. I am in the process of loosing my home...car...and everything around me in the next 30 days. I pains me to sell off this card - as for sending it out because I THINK its fake - your wrong. I have taken it to many a card shop and nobody can tell me yes or no becaose of the back missing. Ebay contacted me and stated they cant stop me from selling ARTWORK as is listed in my description! So please - keep you unprofesional commnets and concerns to yourself and dont bid on it if you dont want it. Thats why this is an auction and not me at your door knocking to sell it to you.......think before you act!".
Posted By: brian
Rick, where did you hear that something could be insured for 15 million? I tried to insure a card purchased for $30,000 by a buyer and my postmaster said the max was $25,000. The below is from USPS website:

"When you’re sending valuable or irreplaceable items through the mail, protect them with Registered Mail™.

Items you send with Registered Mail are placed under tight security from the point of mailing to the point of delivery, and insured up to $25,000 against loss or damage."

Posted By: Jim VB
This seller has 8 or 9 "valuable" cards listed right now. (And all of them have "already been placed in a deluxe acrylic screw down holder.")

What more can you ask for?

At least they say in the ads that they are being sold as reprints.

Even so, some are going for $25-30 already.

Posted By: david Poses
email i sent to seller:

i understand that you are not a not a baseball card dealer, but it is pretty remarkable that several people with extremely rare and valuable cards went to someone who is not a dealer to consign their cards. could you provide some information as to how and where the owners of these cards got them? i am assuming that the owners believe the cards are not reprints- as such, aren't they upset that they will not sell for nearly as much money in auction as if they were sold as originals? or do they believe the cards are reprints? if so, why not just list them as reprints without the qualification that you aren't a dealer, etc?
just curious.
thanks
Posted By: Dave
Yes Jim I thought about the deluxe screwdown holder being worth more than the actual cards they are in.....I basically asked the seller the same query as Dave did, and got no response yet other than to wait until new pictures are put up. I really think this is the same seller who sold a slew of fake Goudeys and E90-1's back in January saying that he had found them in an estate lot of old baseball cards.
the sad thing is that these cards may sell for hundreds if not more dollars
