Posted By: bigfish
Jim,
that Hornsby rookie is a really strong card. The person might have kept that one and sold off the rest? Not a bad buy IMO

Posted By: bigfish
A psa 3 Hornsby rookie sold in Barry's auction for 7,296. I think the price was in line but I over pay all the time so what do I know. Someone might have just wanted that Hornsby card is my point. They paid for it.

Posted By: Jim Manos
You must mean 2 people wanted the Hornsby card. Still I am not afraid to pay up. But man, I just don't get this one?? Not being confrontational I just am floored by this lot... ****

Hell I would rather have a CSA 2 then a GAI 2. Though's that remember CSA.

Posted By: bigfish
Everyone has a different approach. Maybe two people were going at like you mentioned. Who knows. Will CSA be grading at the national?

Posted By: Brian McQueen

Well, based on what some similar cards did individually in Barry's auction, I'd say that this Mastro lot might even be considered a bargain. I realize that the Hornsby in Barry's auction was a "3" and the Mastro auction was a "2" but you still have to place the value of that card alone at a few thousand dollars. Take a look at some of the other cards in the Mastro lot. It's actually chock full of rookie cards. A similar e135 Rice e135 went for $1746 in Barry's auction. The Rickey, Traynor and Schalk rookies are a few hundred apiece. The combined value of all of these cards might even exceed the final price by a thousand or more once they're all added up.

Posted By: bigfish
Buying that for the Hornsby and selling off the rest could get you into the Hornsby at a bargain price. The other rookie cards were nice too.

Posted By: Jim Manos
For the price I don't think it's worth it. Although, I have forsure been wrong before. Brian, does Barry charge a consignment fee??

Posted By: Cat
I won the lot and am happy to have it.

Edited to say: I'll probably keep four cards from the lot. The Rice isn't a cheap one either.

Posted By: Wesley
I think Cat would not lose money if he chose to sell all fourteen cards. The Hornsby alone in Barry's auction went for over $7200. It is my understanding though that he wants to hang on to several cards in this lot.
