Posted By: <b>doug</b><p>4,500 is insane....yes its a condition rarity HOF and a couple of bidders are fighting for it, but its only a PSA 6...great looking card but seems out of whack when compared to other great sets. to put it in perspective, you could pick up a ruth goudey psa 6 for that price.

How about a T3 or E95 Cobb, or a T216 or E98 Wagner? If you go back to Mastro's previous auction, I believe there were some N173 Hall of Famers for about the same price.

That being said, and as pointed out, there just arent that many of these 1920 caramel cards areound that are in decent shape. The cards have been undervalued for a long time and now it seems like they are playing catch up with other pre war issues. The fact they were issued with candy, are good sized sets and are chock full of hall of famers such as Ruth and Cobb make them very desirable and collectible. However, as someone who would like to accumulate more of these, I am concerned the deep pockets are scooping them up without any regard prices. Hopefully, this is a temporary aberration. But if you look at PSA 3 and 4s and higher of the earlier E sets (98, 93, etc), those prices have skyrocketed over the last few years and there just dont seem to be enough caramel cards around to meet demand.
