Posted By: Jon Canfield
Well, now that the 2 days are over, what did you all win? I bid on a series of lots and only came away with 1, and the lot I won was an afterthought... I threw in a bid on a 1955 Yankees team signed ball authenticated by PSA/DNA because the bidding was so low - around $350 and sure enough, it was the only lot I won!

So, did anyone have more success?

Posted By: Brian McQueen

Seems that I've had decent luck with c46s lately. I won a large group of them on Wednesday to fill some holes in my set. Many of the big cards (ie...Gandil, Kelly, McGinnity) as well as plenty of the commons are cards I already have so I'll have dupes available if anyone is interested.

Posted By: Bob
Mike- Nice pickup on the Cobb, great eye appeal for a PSA 1! Should have been a 2 easily.

I had my usual luck with Mastro- I get close enough to get my hopes up only to have them dashed during the extended period time. I really thought I would win the trimmed E94 green Cobb for about 1k but was amazed it went so high. I also tried to pick up some other lots but when the prices reached what I thought was a "good buy" and then went over that, I dropped out. Unless there is something I just have to have, I won't pay over market just to win. Of course that's probably why I don't win that often with them

Posted By: Phil Garry
I picked up two pieces, the 1906 W601 St. Louis Browns P/C with Branch Rickey & 1948 El Indio Monte Irvin. I was second high bidder on the Old Judge Bid McPhee & W600 Joe Tinker. Prices did not seem to be as astronomical overall as most of the previous Mastro Auctions........Maybe one day, I'll actually get the OJ McPhee.

By the way, if any board member won the big lot of 1921/1922/1923 Caramel cards, I am interested in the 1921-23 E220 National Caramel cards of Joe Sewell & Herb Pennock.

Posted By: J Bristow
I managed to win Lot 1151, a pretty mixed bag lot of 16 cards. I'm looking at keeping a handful of the cards, but I'm not sure what I'll do with the rest yet. I though prices overall were somewhat reasonable (if that can be said with 20% juice), especially for some of the cards later in the auction...

Posted By: Jay
It isn't often that you can pick up a rare Old Judge variation for $180 plus vig but I picked up the rare Dalrymple spelling variation (Dolrynigle). The only other copy I have seen was the one in Dave Levin's great Old Judge find. A scan of that card is still on Dave's web site. There are plenty of spelling variations in the Old Judge set but this one is special since it looks like it came out of a random letter generator.

Posted By: Jeff Lichtman
Apparently I'm too big of a public critic of Mastro and am being punished as I barely received enough tape to close my package shut 3 or 4 times around. I'm convinced it's Doug's doing. If Doug is reading this, I would respectfully ask him to alert the powers that be at Mastro to slide a medium sized roll into my package with my cards. I would spend weekends taping up empty boxes with Mastro tape just to experience over and over the delight of tearing open a package from Mastro. Thank you for your consideration.

Posted By: barrysloate
Maybe I can use some of my connections to procure a small strip of packing tape for you. It might take a little wheeling and dealing, but I think I may be able to pull it off.

Posted By: leon
I hear Mastro Auctions is going to Live Auction a role of their tape. I will happily bid for you if you can't make it there?

06-26-2007, 12:55 PM
Posted By: Jeff Lichtman
Leon, I would appreciate that. But just ensure please that Mastro will not be using any of the roll of tape to close the package itself.

Posted By: barrysloate
I will try to send you a piece that has the Mastro logo centered, and will be careful not to crease it or cause too much back damage when I remove it. It will be a very delicate process.
