Posted By: joe
Just wondering, this is the back of 2 Mullen PC, printing is smaller on one back. I have the complete set, this is the only one with small print. Anyone else have one?
Joe

Ty Cobb, Spikes flying!

Posted By: Jeff Mohler
I have a small print variety. FWIW, it is an SGC 60. It is a dark brown color, too.

I have noticed that some of these postcards come in a lighter brown color and some are dark brown, almost black. I wonder if this is just fading, normal color variation or if there is some correlation between coloration and print sizes.

Jeff

Posted By: Glenn
My Slagle looks to have the same font size and spacing (i.e., smaller), but I haven't seen another for comparison.

Posted By: Zinn
"small" print first line ends with "pitch-"
"large" print first line ends with "De-"

That's the way you can tell the difference.

Sorry, my reference was for the Mullin card only.

Posted By: Glenn
I don't think that'll work for me since Slagle was neither a Tiger nor a pitcher.

Posted By: Robert S
Many of the cards can be found with different font size and line spacing on the back for the same player.

As for color -- the Cubs cards are all a rich brown, while the Tigers cards were printed almost as black-and-white, with some also coming in a more purplish tint.

Here's a link to a whole page of them from different years:

http://www.vintageball.com/dietsche.html

Posted By: Pennsylvania Ted
Here is my Ty Cobb p/c.....but, I'm not sure which font size is printed on this one ?
And, regarding this difference, is one style tougher to find than the other ?

TED Z

Posted By: Rhett Yeakley
Ted, I haven't noticed a difference in scarcity, with these you tend to find large groups of either one type or the other (as they were sold in sets), I have never come across a set with mixed large/small font. Other than the font you can tell which set they are from by which line is first in the stamp area (assuming it hasn't been used).

Smaller Font- First Line "Unites States and Canada ONE CENT"

Larger Font- First Line "Place Stamp Here"

-Rhett

Posted By: Jeff Mohler
Since this thread has gone a day and a half without any additional posts, I thought I would try and hijack it!

I thought the Dietsche postcards SVR23 had for auction last night on Ebay went for strong prices. I got the 1908 Moriarty, but was the second high bidder on Delahanty. The 1907 "commons" were seemed to all go for well over $100.00 each.

Jeff
