Posted By: Brian C.
Here are the front and back of the postcard. They have "C" jerseys, but more clues are on the back, which includes, "We are going to play at Muncie, Ind. next Sunday, and on the 23 of September we play the Cincinnati Reds." It is postmarked September 1, 1913 in Versailles, Ohio (they had just played there and won). What team did Cincinnati play on September 23, 1913?

I don't think it's a minor league club because there are only 10 guys in uniform so it's more likely a semi-pro or town team.

Ask them to look at the newspapers for a day or two following that Sept 23 1913 game, see if there's mention of the game... Send the librarian a few dollars and a stamped envelope for the photocopying.

Posted By: Mike
What's with the black clown nose on the guy, in the middle of the second row?

Posted By: Dave F
Mike I think that's a spot on the card and not a clown nose.

Posted By: barrysloate
I was wondering about the clown nose too.

Several of the players look somewhat old, easily well into their thirties. Also, the person who wrote the postcard states the team will be playing the Cincinnati Reds in September. Assuming that is true, these guys had to be pretty good to play a major league team.

Posted By: Brian C.
Thanks for the responses so far. Unfortunately, the mark on the guy's face is a spot on the card, not a clown nose.

Here is the link:

http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CIN/1913_sched.shtml

Posted By: Brian C.
Thanks for that information. The game I'm interested in, however, is the one on September 23. It was against the team pictured on the card.
