Posted By: Jeff Lichtman
I'm hosting a radio show tomorrow night, 8-10 pm, on WABC in NY, 770 am. If there is some interest, one of the topics I want to discuss is the Bonds homerun record chase and whether or not it should be viewed as the real record or be given a metaphorical asterisk a la Roger Maris's 61 HR season record. For those outside NY the show can be heard live on the internet and I'd invite board members to call in to the show to discuss the issue.

Posted By: Jeff Lichtman
Its on www.wabcradio.com. Then you have to click on 'listen live' or something like that.

Some of the subjects discussed prior to Bonds are not for the faint of heart - so be forewarned.

So Barry, considering we may be having the first Sloate auction online, how about an online preview? Joe is at the grill as we speak so if we have to wait for him to get on the catalogs....

Posted By: Jeff Lichtman
LOL, the reminder? This thread was the reminder! I spoke about Bonds for a few minutes and specifically mentioned that I am convinced he has pictures of Jay Behrens in a compromising position. See, if you had listened you would have heard that!

Posted By: Cobby33
Jeff-

Damn. Just saw this thread tonight. But since I already scribed the following before I realized the show was over, here it is:

At AT&T Park, the Giants are already using the asterisk. (On the scoreboard, the leadoff hitter in the next half inning is denoted on the scoreboard lineup with an asterisk. Many times, sadly, it's Bonds). You may also want to mention that nobody cares about what Fay Vincent says. He didn't make a decision when he was Commissioner. Why is telling another one (Selig) who is afraid to make a decision, what to do? Oh-and Hank Aaron? Get over it.

MLB/NBA/NFL are willing to "forgive" convicted criminals of crimes with victims. Why is MLB indicting someone who hasn't even been to a real trial?????

Posted By: Jason L
All,
I'll bet that photo is what really broke up Joe and Marilyn!

Jeff, sorry to have missed the show...what's it like to have the power of a microphone like that?! What was the final message with regards to Bonds? Did you take callers?

Barry,
Will you have a bargain bin category within your auction?
Or perhaps (and this is very light-hearted, friendly suggestion-as evidenced by the emoticon ) you could be the first auctioneer to post estimated prices that are at least 60% of the realistic close...just so po folk like me don't get too excited over some of these fine items!!!

Posted By: barrysloate
Hi Jason- I don't do estimates, just opening bids.

As far as bargain bin, most of that material is on ebay. Auctions are expensive to put together, so the material tends to be a little pricier.

Posted By: peter chao
Guys,

It looks like many of us missed the radio show, can anybody give a short summary about what was said about Bonds.

My personal opinion is that it would be impossible to give Bonds an asterisk simply because if MLB wanted to be consistent they would have to put asterisks next to a bunch of modern records.

But then there's no requirement that Bud Selig and MLB be consistent.

Peter
