Posted By: Bobby Binder
You are referring to Los Angeles, correct? If so there is Beverly Hills Basecall card shop located on Robertson Blvd. The owner is Matt and he is a good guy and has a nice selection to choose from in pre-war. Don't think they are open on Monday and it would not be very far from downtown to get to.

Posted By: JimB
I would second the recommendation of Beverly Hill Cardshop on Robertson. Matt is a great guy and the shop has been there for about 20 years. It is one of the survivors. He usually has quite a bit of vintage inventory, but you have to ask him about it since he does not keep it in the cases. Matt is one of the good guys in the hobby.
JimB

Edited to correct the street the shop is on thanks to Bobby's note.

Posted By: Dan Bretta
I had one unpleasant transaction on ebay with the Beverly Hills cardshop. In the days before paypal I won an auction and called them the very next day and paid with a credit card...after weeks passing and not receiving the cards I called them and they said they had no record of me paying them and they were extremely rude about it. I waited for my credit card bill to show up and sure enough the charge was on my bill so I called them back and finally they told me they must have made a mistake...it still took them a couple of weeks to ship out my cards. No apology, and no positive feedback from them.

And besides James you're in LA to celebrate Star Wars not search for baseball cards.

Posted By: MVSNYC
cool...i am a big Star Wars fan, but have not collected anything "SW" since i was a kid. i do have some original figures kicking around somewhere. i am sure they are pretty valuable...maybe i can trade them for some T206 cards?

Posted By: Dan Bretta
I used to be into collecting the vintage star wars toys...even bought some foreign toys from James many years ago, but I sold off my collection when I had a kid and bought a house. I had a complete mint set of the figures loose and somewhere around 100 figures mint on the card...and most of the vehicles still in boxes. I sometimes miss them, but I don't miss all the space they took up when I had them.

Posted By: James Gallo
No reason I have to just mess with Star Wars while I am in LA. I am hitting the Dogers game Wednesday night and figured I might be able to do some card hunting as well.

Anyone got a number handy for this shop, otherwise I will track it down.

thanks

James

PS I am not really sure calling me a celebrity is quite accurate, just a knowledgeable collector.

Looking for 1915 Cracker Jacks and 1909-11 American Caramel E90-1.

It's too bad Dan had a bad experience. I imagine a few things fall through the cracks with the best of us. I have known Matt for about 20 years and can vouch that he is honest and one of the really good guys in the hobby.
JimB

Posted By: Anthony
If you're looking for bargains and selection I think you're going to be disappointed wherever you go. Matt's shop is about 6 blocks from my studio, and while I agree he's a great guy you're going to find a lot more on ebay at much better prices. He and TJ Schwartz (Porky's in Woodland Hills) have the best selection of vintage cards of any store in LA County, but for the most part I've found when I'm in another town I've had a lot better time meeting up with board members for a beer than pouring over books of cards at 99% of mint beckett. Overhead for card shops is just too high to find anything reasonable, IMO.

If you do go there is also All Star Cards on the opposite side of Robertson a few blocks north. Richard will occasionally have some E cards or Wilson Franks, but is more focused on the Yu Gi Oh market.

Posted By: peter chao
Dan,

I didn't mean to stereotype. So Jason, don't feel vulnerable, there's a lot of reasons for collecting baseball cards. One of my reasons is that it allows me to go back to my childhood, to a simpler time and place when all I had to worry about was trying to complete a Topps series.

Peter

I mean uh, all our lives we've been laughed at and made to feel inferior. And tonight, those bastards, they trashed our house. Why? Cause we're smart? Cause we look different? Well, we're not. I'm a nerd, and uh, I'm pretty proud of it.

Lewis: Hi, Gilbert. I'm a nerd too. I just found that out tonight. We have news for the beautiful people. There's a lot more of us then there are of you. I know there's alumni here tonight. When you went to Adams you might've been called a spazz, or a dork, or a geek. Any of you that have ever felt stepped on, left out, picked on, put down, whether you think you're a nerd or not, why don't you just come down here and join us. Okay? Come on.

Gilbert: Just join us cos uh, no-one's gonna really be free until nerd persecution ends.

Posted By: peter chao
Dan,

You would feel right at home in Silicon Valley, it is truly the revenge of the nerds here. Only in Silicon Valley do the nerds establish fashion. For instance, around 15 years ago Steve Jobs started going to board of directors meeting in casual attire. Now you will see this in most corporations here in Silicon Valley.

Peter
