Posted By: Trae R.
Alright, so just to throw out a few I've got here:
- Sleepy Bill Burns with his backwards glove
- Bill Clymer with only 4 fingers
- Bill Bergen with 2 collars in one

Ironically they all have the first name Bill! Maybe the artist didn't like guys by the name of Bill.

Post some more funny or oddball images from the set!

(These nice clean images are part of a full set display project I am working on. I will of course share when it's done. </suspense>)

Posted By: MVSNYC
IMO, you are 1 for 3 (.333 batting avg is not too shabby)...

you are correct, that obviously Sleepy Bill Burns has his glove on backwards, i'll give you that.

BUT, the way i see it, Clymer's pointer finger is "pointed" up on his belt, i am sure his thumb is behind his waist.

and Bergen's "double" collar is (i think) part of a wrap-over front sweater, like many other players wear in the T206 set...

just my opinions.

Posted By: Justin
I think the real humor of the Bergen card, is that he is the holding the bat like he knows what its for.

Posted By: Joe D.
assuming a thumb behind my waist....
I can't make my hand do what Clymer's is doing without dislocating a finger.

two middle fingers together and pointing down at like a 45degree angle.
pinky pointing down at the same angle or greater.

and that pointer - pointing way up.

impossible for me.

Posted By: Max Weder
I don't know about Clymer, but my index finger can only bend at about a 45% angle away from the middle finger. The image has Clymer with a 90% angle. Clymer would indeed be impossibly flexible in the image to have his thumb behind his index finger.

Max

LOL

Posted By: Trae R.
Haha, Sean, I was going to say something similar when I described the Clymer image. No one has any other funny's to point out?

What's up with Clancy's right hand? It's as big as the glove!

Wiltse's sweater...

Posted By: MVSNYC
the issue is that clancy's glove is as SMALL as his hand...

and Wilste's sweater is the "fold-over" one i refered to earlier...

Posted By: Trae R.
Michael, you've gotta admit they both look silly though! You sure are on the defensive for these artists. I think you're giving them too much credit though, personally. It's a beautiful set, second only to T3 in my opinion, but they did goof on many perspectives.

Posted By: MVSNYC
well, i am not related to any of the artisits, so i have no reason to defend them...ALL of these exact "goofs" as you call them, i noticed years ago, and found reasons for almost all except the Burns glove...keep on looking, good thread.

Posted By: Trae R.
Yep, the more I looked for the sweater "goof" I noticed it's on many of the New York player's card... Doyle is one of the more notable.

I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Here's one I've been meaning to ask about... what is your opinion, diving for a ball (horizontal) or catching a fly ball (vertical)? I personally think it's a vertical pose (as currently recognized) but looks cool as a horizontal also.

Posted By: Max Weder
Gulp. On Clymer, I checked with my spouse. She pointed out I was inflexible (figuratively and literally) and that her index and middle fingers easily spread that wide, in part from playing the piano.

I thus change my vote and Clymer is not a "funny bunch" T206.

Max

Posted By: anthony
this vertical/horizontal ? could be either...

the more i look at it, the more it looks like he is diving for the ball, making it horizontal...if its vertical, he's either making a "willie mays" catch running forward toward the homerun fence or he's got his glove the wrong way and is standing under the ball...kinda like a beginning outfielder (age 6-7) would do.

Posted By: John S
Look at Clarke's bat between his two hands...doesn't quite line up. I pulled this image from my T3...don't have the T206 but I know that the image is shared with the T206.

Posted By: Trae R.
I think it may be an optical illusion due to the way his hands are held, the shadows or something? I drew two straight lines in Photoshop parallel to the bat and it's straight.

Keep looking though, this is interesting!

Posted By: Jon Canfield
On the Chappelle, Rochester card, I once noticed his belt buckle certainly doesn't line up with his "fly". In fact, I remember there being a belt loop right where his belt buckle should be. Maybe somebody has an image to post?

Posted By: Steve M.
As I recall the story the players had their belt buckles on the side so as not to have it dig into them when they slid into a base. It would then make sense that there would be a belt loop above the fly.

Posted By: Steve Dawson
On the Donovan (throwing) card, is he flipping an upside-down bird?

Also, the Wilhelm (hands at chest) is another one where he doesn't have a glove. It also appears he doesn't even have a ball in his hands.

Steve
