Posted By: johnny
HELLO ALL!!!

i just picked up a t206 piedmont 42 jordan a week or two ago on ebay..
i noticied before i bid, the blue ink on the back is not the typical "lighter" blue found on most pied 42's ...
the blue is typical dark blue characteristic of most piedmont backs...i have noticed one other example i saw a year ago, but lost the bid....

luckily i won this one...
i am having trouble posting the link or the scan...
can post the auction #230103488177

has anyone noticed these ?????

thanks

Posted By: Lee
Both of my fact 42's have lighter ink than the other piedmonts I have seen and own (many of them). Maybe the lighter ink is due to the 42's being printed at one factory (NC) and they just happened to be the only factory to use the lighter ink? As for your back, I see that is about the color of a regular piedmont. Maybe they made a run with darker ink....Other people on here may know better than I.

Posted By: Scot Reader
I have found that many if not most Piedmont 42s fall into one of two categories:

1. Light blue ink, centered.

2. Dark blue ink, off-center left to right.

Also, most Piedmont 42s (about 90%) are 350/460 subjects. 460-only subjects are rarely found with Piedmont 42 [except Kleinow (Boston) and Smith (Chicago and Boston) which have the same 460 back profile as 350/460 RP subjects].

Posted By: johnny
guys, thanks for the responses...

i have also theorized that 2 factories or possible print runs have accounted for this...

like i said, i own a few 42's, but i collect mostly the error/scrap/oddballs t206...i think i may have 4 or 5 42's...

offset to the right, huh?! nice observation...
like i said, i very rarely see the 42's in the dark blue ink...i have only seen one other example like i said...

can anyone post a scan of a darker blue 42??

also, how do i insert photos??,it just sends me to photobucket

thanks guys

Posted By: Martin Neal
I have collected factory 42s off and on for several years and have noticed the different color variations. Note sure this adds anything or not, but the three light blue 42s came from the same lot. All the others were from individual sellers.

Posted By: Martin Neal
Hi Johnny,

4 of the 42s are dark blue. I guess there should be 41 different backs now. (smiley face here.) Seriously, would these be considered a different back? I think you can differentiate between light and dark blue 42s easier than you can black and brown old mills.
