Posted By: eric p.
i just got home tonight from working another 15 hour day and felt my heart drop when i received 3 emails from ebay and paypal saying that my account was compromised, i just thought it was a spoof as usual, so i went to log on to my ebay and it wouldn't take my password, that's when i was flat out scared, so i had to change my password to ebay in order to log in, i went ahead and changed my password on paypal while i was at it, i hope and pray that this is the end of it, has anyone else on this board have a similar situation happen to them?

Posted By: andy
One day I filled out a form that I thought was legit and emailed from ebay. It was an offer to become a "power seller" and listed the benefits. I broke my rule not even thinking and responded. Next thing I know I'm selling tractors with "buy it now" prices. Anywhere you click on the screen redirected you to a email address to inquire about the fake tractors. The security folks at Ebay acted pretty quick and the listings were gone within 15 minutes.

I needed a new password also. Don't fall for the "Power Seller" email!
-Andy

Posted By: Eric B
If you can't log onto Ebay because your password doesn't work, how do you logon to change it?

Posted By: Eric B
Ahhh, so the reset password gets sent to your email address and you change it to something you like. But I guess that won't work if the person changes the email address too.

Posted By: Dave Williams
About a month ago, I got an email saying I had bought something for $29.95 from PayPal, but if this was incorrect to log on to PayPal and correct it.

After finding out neither my wife nor kids had bought anything, I went into MY EBAY and there was no transaction.

I suspect it was a fraud trying to get my PayPal info.

I never open any of the alleged EBAY emails.

Posted By: Corey R. Shanus
Eric,

Same thing happened to me in December. Somebody compromised my account and was running about 200 auctions on my account selling things such as power boats and expensive farm equipment. EBay got wind of it, cancelled all the auctions and credited me for all incured charges. I dealt with it by contacting EBay customer support and letting them tell me how to secure my account (which in the end was nothing more than changing my password). When I mentioned the incident to my computer technician, he mentioned he had heard EBay's system had been broken into and that many EBay accounts had been hijacked.

Posted By: eric p.
thanks for all the responses, corey that is flat out scary in regards to ebay's system getting broken into, let alone someone selling items under your account, i hope ebay has updated their security since then, i do think they do a pretty good job of letting users know when their account has been compromised, it's just a scary ordeal when it happens to you.
