Posted By: john/z28jd
I dont know if anyone else noticed but this card which was selling for $0.75-2.00 on ebay as later as sunday is now selling in the $200-370 range today and because of this story breaking. Tthe funny part for all of these people who are paying so much is that Topps said they will issue the card until mid-season then pull it when they release complete sets. That basically means this card will be slightly more difficult than it should be,so say its normally worth $2,now it should be $3.

These people that hold on to them are going to get a rude awakening in a couple months when they can be had for $5 but if youre stupid enough to realize the card isnt rare when over 1200 of them are on ebay in the last 2 days then maybe you dont deserve all that money you got

Posted By: Jason Carota
I purchased one pack to see the new design in person, and I pulled the Jeter. I saw the horrible Photoshopping job and laughed, and decided I wasn't a fan of the overall design of the cards in general. So I left them at the shop.

Ooops.

Posted By: Dylan
i remember that Topps Gordon RC that topps came out with that wasnt supposed to be inserted into the packs. Some got through and it was reported on the news and they started selling for ridiculous amounts of money. Are those still selling for anything near what they did then? I doubt it but bottom line is this stuff sells for stupid money cause its in the news and once its yesterdays news no one will pay more than a couple dollars for it.

Posted By: Richard L.
Being on the nonsport forum side, I do like checking on the BB side, as I find many interesting topics. Wonder if this employee worked for Topps in 1977. As the Star Wars craze was on, Topps produced a 330 card set. Card #207 was printed in 2 versions. The C3P0 regular card and C3P0 with an x-rated version. If you check ebay completed items #260088558505 you'll see a good scan of the "altered" card. No need for an explanation, it's visually evident. Leon, if you feel this doesn't belong, please delete(but check it out first).

Posted By: john/z28jd
Dylan i used the Gordon card as an example to someone. I believe 100 of those got out approx. and they still sell for alot of money, just not what they were selling for. These Jeter cards on the other hand are at least 1000x more plentiful and theyre still making them for another 3 months so they could easily be back down to $5 each within a couple weeks.

In fact now theres over 1100 active auctions for this card,or topps packs not counting ones in ebay stores! Doesnt that sound of whistles and bells for anyone? Maybe if theres over 1100 active auctions, some with multiple cards, that maybe this card isnt that rare

Posted By: David Smith
But if one person buys a lot of them up (like Keith Olbermann did with the Alex Gordon cards) then there wont be that many on the market.

Posted By: Dan Bretta
Keith Olbermann showed this card on his show a week or so back...Not just Mantle on the card, but so is President Bush up in the crowd. He also opened up the very first pack of 2007 Topps cards on another show a few weeks ago...Johnny Damon was the first card pulled from a pack of 2007 Topps.

Posted By: john/z28jd
I couldnt imagine how many they would have to buy to make the card hard to find. I think you could take 50,000 off the market and hardly make a dent in the price. Just figure it this way,the last 2 days over 2000 have been on ebay, probably 50x that amount are still in packs out there and another 100,000+ probably havent been made yet. Then figure in how many are in peoples hands already and they arent selling. This isnt like someone getting 20+ old judges of the same player, you'd have to go broke trying to get enough of these Jeter cards one by one to make them tough to find

Olbermann bought alot of those Gordon cards, spending over 60k yet the last one sold for $1200 on ebay which is 1/6th of the price hes paid for a couple of them back when they were hot. Even back before they got real hot they were selling for more without his help
