Posted By: Wesley
In some cases, there is no way to distinguish between M101-5 and M101-4 Ruth cards. For example, if you have a blank back, there is no way of telling. Blank backs are by far the most common backs for these two series and if you have ablank back Ruth, it could be from either set.

It is my understanding the only backs that are exclusive to M101-5 is the Successful Farming and Holmes to Homes backs. All other advertisements are from the M101-4 set or interchangeable between M101-4 and M101-5.

Posted By: Todd Schultz
if you have a Famous&Barr or Standard Biscuit card, they are very likely m101-5, and if the F&B ad runs bottom to top in orientation, it is even more likely m101-5.

If you have a Successful Farming or Holmes to Homes card of anyone at all, you're doing all right.

Posted By: leon
The old way to tell the difference in blank backs was to look at the slab (when one was still 1915 and one was 1916) ...Since the Ruth "rookie" would have been 1915 all of the people put "1915" on their submission forms and they all came back as 1915's, viola !! While I would have definitely done it also I always thought that was kind of stupid..I never really kept up with the different series, personally...On the subject of scarcity the only back I have seen "one" of is the Gimbels small block print...after that I have seen about 2-3 Everybodys backed cards and a few more of each of the other rare backs..There have been quite a few discussions of these and I am sure a search on this board will enlighten anyone that so desires......regards

Posted By: Paul
Has anyone ever even confirmed the existence of a Successful Farming or Holmes to Homes card of Ruth? Even putting aside the "rookie" question, a Ruth with one of these backs would have to sell for a fortune.
