Posted By: joe
Anyone know if the Merchant's Gargling Oil cards are in the SCD book? If so, where? Seems like most have the bottom trimmed off, is there a premium if card is complete with bottom paragraph information still attached?

Thanks joe

Ty Cobb, Spikes flying!

Posted By: Dan Bretta
They are not in the book. And as far as Victorian trade cards go they are pretty close to being the most common.

Posted By: fkw
There are actually 4 different Merchants Gargling sets, all have the same basic design, but vary in colors and details in design and background and by who printed them.

The H804-7A red/tan ones (Clay & Richmond Litho.) are the most common of all Baseball Trade Cards. They usually sell for under $25. Cards missing the ad are almost worthless. It took me 2 years to sell 4 diff. for $5 ea.

H804-7B are multi color cards with blue and yellow (Courier Litho.) are a bit tougher, and comand a small premium.

H804-7C is the same as H804-7A but has some differences in punctuation and are printed by a different company (Gies & Co. Litho.).

H804-7D is the scarcest. They are the same design as H804-7A but have punctuation differences and are printed by different company (Karle & Co. Litho.).

None are in the SCD except the Tobin's. Almost all of the baseball related trade cards are found in the Frank Keetz's "Baseball Advertising Trade Cards" book (tough to find as its been out of print for awhile now).
