Posted By: Sean
Howdy,
I was searching the PSA site for grading fees for the T3's. Does anyone know the price? I prefer SGC but $50 is a bit to high.

Thanks,
Sean BH

Posted By: barrysloate
It's the best $50 you will ever spend. It will add a hundred or two of value to every common you own, and up to thousands of dollars on key cards (if you are talking about beat up commons with pinholes you probably don't really need a slab).

Posted By: JK
Not to hijack the thread, but any opinions on whether it would be worth the money to get this one slabbed? Its pretty beat up around the border, but the image is nice and its a HOFer.

Posted By: Steve f
Josh, I would. Borders are rough but the image is very clean nice. Eddie is very underrated. My lone T3 is in far worse shape and sits in a PSA Auth slab.

Posted By: leon
Personally I wouldn't get it slabbed. With the condition as obvious as it is I am not sure it would sell for more in a holder. If I were buying it I wouldn't pay more for it in a holder...others may have differebt opinions though...best regards

Posted By: Sean
Thanks for the input, if it comes down to the same price I will go with SGC.
Like Josh would this be worth it?

Tanks and Bombs,
Sean

Posted By: E, Daniel
I'm always struck when a cetain pefect storm of condition occurs, often heavy wear to edges and a chunk or two missing - combined with a stunning crystal clear image. It really is a blazer to my eyes, and the wear simply conveys the times and travels its seen. Kind of a steinbeckian hit the road card .

Unlike Leon I think a slab - especially SGC's - would be perfect for your piece. Not so much for value (though I think it would add 30% to its value) but for the beautiful archival appearance it would give it. Placing an item with wear such as this under a really classy frame always focusses the eye on its true merits and I feel creates a museum appearance and style.... Also handling becomes much nicer for me, though I know others prefer sans holder.

Daniel,

Posted By: Steve Dawson
Sorry to post a downer, but PSA raised their prices on Jan 15th.

It now costs $55 each for T3s. I just submitted 15 T3 HOFers for grading on Jan 13th to beat the increase.

Steve

Posted By: jim
I think the T3's should be slabbed, especially HOF'ers. It is far and away easier to handle them and show them to friends or display. Skip Starbucks for a couple of weeks and the slab is paid for. You will no longer worry about dropping of bumping them again. Smell and feel them once before submission to get it out of your system. SGC is the way to go if you want to keep them for yourself; if thinking for sale, look into PSA also.

Posted By: jay wolt
SEAN - I would wait till you had another 1 or 2 to submit (be it PSA or SGC).
If you submit the 1 lone card, you're talking about $80 or so for grading/slabbing and the round trip insured shipping. The $30ish or so for the shipping costs would be the same if you submitted 1, 2 or 3.
Posted By: barrysloate
I just got back several T3's and N173's from SGC- the holders are beautiful and not too cumbersome. I'm not sure how one deals with a complete set of slabbed T3's- you might need a wagon or flatbed truck to move them around the house- but they are nice looking holders.

Posted By: barrysloate
Dan- let's not mince words. In my last auction I was given a raw T3 Matty and I remember my consignor saying he really hoped it didn't sell for less than $2500. We sent it to SGC, got it slabbed a 60, and it sold for $11,000+.

Now you tell me why people send cards in to get slabbed?

Posted By: dan mckee
I know Barry, it is about the $$$, amazing that people pay those prices based on a number that a non-knowledgable collector assigns? Damn that was an impressive statement!

Posted By: Sean
Well Barry you did send it to SGC. Who knows if it was PSA...

Since I should send in others to grade does anyone have any raw T3's? I thinking of that guy who played for the Tigers...his name escapes me...something like Taxi Cabb?

I don't know...is it 5 o'clock where anyone is right now?

Sean BH

Posted By: dan mckee
Barry, I know you are and I agree, the fight is over thanks to the new ignorant money that has entered the hobby. Great for us who are selling, bad for the legit new collector who wants to complete a good RAW rare set.

Posted By: James Feagin
While I prefer SGC for grading and their smaller holders, I actually prefer PSA over-sized T3 holders. When I won my lone T3 which is a PSA 3, my wife looked at me and said, "why would you want to collect anything else?"

Posted By: barrysloate
The SGC holders offer a nice black background that complement the colors...the PSA slabs are translucent. Both work, I guess.
