Posted By: MVSNYC
i am offering for auction the above mentioned card. the auction will run 7 days from the time this is posted. please respond to this post with your name and bid. all bids to follow must be higher than the previous (pretty simple). the winner will be the one with the highest bid before the hammer drops, exactly 7 days to the second. any bids after that exact second will be too late.

it is my decision that i will send Leon 2% of the selling price for allowing this auction to take place on his forum.

good luck, let's see how it goes...if there appears to be any "funny business" i reserve the right to end the auction or not carry through with the transcation.

michael sarno

opening bid: $99.99
reserve: $905 (that was what bidding reached before it was taken off of eBay by hackers).
************************************************** ************************************************** *

edited: to add opening bid & reserve

edited to say: since there is no seconds in the listing time, the hammer falls at exactly the post time listed above, 7 days from now (next saturday)...there can be multiple bidders that last minute, but the winner will be the last bidder BEFORE that minute hits the above time.

edited to say: that if there are multiple bidders who post the same amount right at the end of the auction, the FIRST person to post that amount wins...

edited to say: there are no bidding increments, bid what you wish...highest bid wins.

and i will pay for insured fed ex overnight!

Posted By: leon
As we are discussing the format, in the other thread, if we find a better way, you may do this however ya'll decide is best. It might be in this thread or it might be a BST page set for auctions or .....?? I very much appreciate your offer of a percentage but I will not accept anything under any circumstance for allowing auctions to be done. thanks again for the support and the auction suggestion...best regards

Posted By: barrysloate
Michael- how can everyone expect to get their final bid in at 8:00 on the button without software? What if there are ten guys left at the end and they want to bid but don't know the status?

Posted By: MVSNYC
barry, i hear your concerns, this is an "experiment" and i have offered my Drum as the "test specimen"...

i know this process might have flaws, but let's just play it out...highest bid prior to hammer time wins (and if there are 4 bidders for example who post "$1350" and that number is the highest prior to hammer, then the FIRST person who posted it wins)...

Posted By: barrysloate
Michael- here's an issue: if there are two snipes on an ebay lot, one for $700 and one for $1200, the winner gets the lot for $710. If you got the same two bids at the end, what would the winner pay?

Posted By: rob
why not just start the bidding at $905 since the reserve is public. all under bids are meaningless since there is no benefit in being able to bid later in the "bonus time" supplied by auctin houses.

Posted By: MVSNYC
yes, please bid right here...

someone mentioned that the reserve is public, "why not start there?"...

let's just stick with the original plan, because i don't want to change the rules during the auction...plus, you guys can get some "warm up" bids happening prior to reserve...that way we can see the format take shape...

looks like we are all learning as we go here...

Posted By: barrysloate
Okay- I would like to bid $250. How will my bid be recorded? If I want to leave a ceiling, how do I do it (and you neglected to answer my earlier question)?

Posted By: MVSNYC
barry- i respect your input, i am learning as i go here...consider this like a "LIVE" auction...no ceiling bids...if you want a ceiling bid of, let's say, $1300, then just either bid that now, or what until close to the end...

again, i am trying my best to keep it simple...

p.s. your bid of $250 is noted, that is the first & current bid...

Posted By: Bobby Binder
The only way for this to work is to install proper software somewhat like eBay. I suggest that it is a weekly auction and all new listings start on Monday and close every Sunday night in 2 minute increments, No extended biddings just a straight forward auction.

Posted By: Joe D.
the auction ends when there are no more bids for 10-minutes.

IMO:
the rush to bid before it ends is a rediculous eBayish process. Extending the auction is better for the bidder and the seller and is one of the things that makes auction houses better than eBay.

It is very easy to see a 10 minute gap in bids since each post is time stamped.
Posted By: MVSNYC
bobby & joe D.- i appreciate your thoughts, but there is a seperate thread for the "concept & suggestions" of a NET54 auction...

this thread is an actual test auction, that is live, current bid is $250.

Posted By: barrysloate
Michael- I know that you are winging this, but as your friend I have to tell you to devise some very specific rules for how it will end...or you will get two people who say "no, I won the card" and you will have a huge headache. And I still can picture how this will end. Will you get ten emails at 7:59 with bids from people who have no clue what the status is?

Posted By: MVSNYC
barry- i hear you, that's why i thought to make the rules, that the auction ends at the exact hammer time 12:25pm next saturday...all bids need to be posted prior to that exact time...highest bidder wins, and in the event there are multiple bidders near the end with the same exact amount (assuming that might only happen in the last minute)...to be fair, it will have to goto the first person to post that amount...

i'm just trying to do something fun & cool for us on a lazy saturday...

Posted By: MVSNYC
i agree with some that this might have been rushed...but it is a test run, and rules were set...i will stick to my word and rules...

since it wasn't established prior to the first bid...we will continue with no increments. bid what you wish, highest bid wins.

Posted By: fessgreg
feel sorry for you mvsnyc. nobody is talking about the advantages here: no call backs thru the nite,no buyers commission, free shipping. that being said i don't think this will work. how do you hold people accountable for paying? They'll be too many complaints just like there is now. You'll probably be using BST eventually. Good luck, MVSNYC

Posted By: MVSNYC
fess-

i hear what you are saying, but just thought i would use the DRUM as just an experiment...we'll see how it goes...if i don't get payment from the winner, then he/she simply does not get the card, and i will gladly sell it to one of the many people who have shown interest in it recently...

thanks, be well.
MS
