Posted By: robert a
Quan,

This is a wierd card. It's missing a color (red) on the front which causes the black and white look. He should have pink on the face, hat, and hands.

rob

Posted By: Paul
If you add the missing red color to the background, you get purple. Are Old Puts (or E98s) known in purple?

Posted By: Brett
Rob, yeah that was pretty nice of you to outbid me with one second left in the auction.

Posted By: robert a
Paul,

The old put ink is purple, but wasn't part of the printing process. E98s are found in blue, red, orange, and green only.

Here's another blue dooin with the red:

Brett,

Did you notice the old put on the back?

Rob

Posted By: Brett
Ofcource. Thats why I was watching the card from the very beginning of the auction. I also tried to get the seller to end the auction early.

This sniping crap on ebay really pisses me off. I've lost so many cards due to this....

Posted By: Bob
This makes only the second non-red Old Put I have ever seen. Leon's blue Clarke being the other.

Posted By: fkw
The redish color (missing on top card) would only be printed on the hat, face, hands, sleaves, socks, and glove, not the background.

Posted By: MW
I'm not so sure a color is missing on this one -- at least not due to a printing omission. The variance could be attributed instead to water damage/fading. I've seen a similar effect on various T206s.

Posted By: leon
Welcome to armpit collecting . It's the backbone of the hobby !!.

For the record I have seen one other blue background Old Put card besides this one and mine.....they are rare though....almost all are of the red background variety....

edited to add that I am glad to see this one be a non-hof'er. For some reason the great majority, that I have seen, seem to be HOF'ers...

Posted By: Harry Wallace
I agree with MW, the missing color could certainly be from water/moisture/light damage.

Posted By: leon
Rob- it was a HOF'er but I forget who. The gentleman had 2 Old Puts...1 red and 1 blue...and was not interested in parting with either. At the time, about a year or two ago, it was the only other blue one I had seen....best regards
