Posted By: Trae R.
So, I'm a really die-hard T206 collector and I never thought I would say this but I must admit the T205 set has been catching my eye for the past few months. It's a really great looking set of cards that seem like they would be nearly as entertaining to collect as the T206 cards are.

I could search through the forum, but to be honest I don't like the way the board search functions so I'd like to ask those of you who don't mind helping me out by explaining the basic ins and outs of the T205 set. A few questions I would like answered are:

- What is the general price of PSA/SGC 1 & 2 commons?
- What are the tough(er) cards in the set... I know Hoblitzell "No Stats" is one.
- How many advertiser backs are there? Any of them tough to find?
- If you're on a or have been on a similar T206 & T205 voyage along side another what has your experience been? Positive?
- Have any oddball T205's? I'd love to see them. Printing freaks are cool!
- Any good reference material out there for the set? Websites? Books?

That's all I can think of for now, thanks!

Posted By: Turner Engle
To answer a few of your questions, PSA/SGC 1's and 2's will run you anywhere from $20 to $30 and some a little higher depending on the card (variations, etc.).

I am 15, and I have been collecting this set with my dad since last February and are close to completing the master.

Here is what I think is the toughest variations in the set.

(1) Hoblitzell no stats
(2) Wallace 1 line of 1910 stats
(3) Moran stray line
(4) Irvin Wilhelm (Suffered in 18th line of bio)
(5) Irvin Wilhelm (Suffe ed in 18th line of bio)

As for star players the Joss is not an easy one to come by.

The tough common players that we had trouble to locate but were possible to find:

Donohue
Walsh
Bugs Raymond
Kirb White
Scanlan
Vaughn
Dahlen
Rowan
Suggs
Wagner
Walsh
Hoblitzell (variations)
Grant
Sweeney

We were able to pick up many cards from board members. The guy who helped us out the most would have to be Shawn Adkins. He knows his T205's inside and out.

Turner Engle
mengle2@insight.rr.com
Posted By: barrysloate
Turner- that is a very accurate list but I think I would put the Wilhelm with the "r" missing in with your second group. The Wilhelm with "suffered" is proving to be a real rarity, while the other is merely a scarce variation.

Posted By: J Levine
Trae,
Welcome to T205s.
Turner and Barry gave some very accurate information. I have been working on this set for nearly 10 years and love it dearly and doing back and rarity research for nearly 8 years now.

I will try to answer some of your questions as accurately as I can.

PSA 1/SGC 10 commons can run around $15-$30
PSA 2/SGC 20 commons can run around $20-$40

Toughest card in set is the Hoblitzell no stats. Turner has it pretty close on the others.

The next toughest group should include:
Wilhelm suffered
Moran Stray line
Gray w. stats
Wallace no cap 1 line 1910 stats
Hoblitzell no cin. spelled correctly

Next would be
Wallace no cap w. two lines 1910 stats
Suggs
Joss
Grant
Wagner
Rowan
Kleinow
Scanlan
Donohue

I actually have a third tier of toughness
Shean Cubs
Graham Cubs
Hoblitzell no cin. spelled incorrectly
Walsh
Sweeny
Vaughn
Turner
Fisher
Dahlen
K. White
Raymond
Joss
Chase one ear
Breshnahan mouth open
Collins mouth open
Dougherty white sock
Ford White cap
Harmon left ear

Ad backs are my specialty...
In order of scarcity and some notes about them is below.
Drum (much much scarcer than the T206 Drum back)
Blank Back (technically not an ad back as the whole back is blank, but tougher than most if you do it all)
Hindu (many degrees tougher than a t206 hindu)
Broadleaf khaki color very tough
Broadleaf brown color also very difficult
Piedmont fact. 42 tough
American Beauty black nearly as tough as piedmont fact. 42
American Beauty green difficult but easier than the black version
Hassan fact. 30 (Cycle and Hassan fact. 30 are about the same)
Cycle
Sovereign
Honest Long Cut (about the same as the Hassan fact. 649)
Hassan fact. 649
Sweet Cap. black fact. 42
Sweet Cap. black fact. 25
Sweet Cap. red
Polar Bear (many dealers still attach a premium but my research says that this back is one of the most plentiful for T205)
Piedmont fact. 25

I only do t205 and am three cards away from a master set. So no real comparison to t206.

I know Adam W. and Shawn Adkins have a few printing freaks. I don't know who owns the Pink Walsh but it is out there somewhere now.

As for reference material, start with Shawn or myself or Barry S. If you need a book on t205s, there really is not one. This site is still the best tool any vintage collector could use.

Hope this helps...love this set...

Joshua
