Posted By: <b>Dave Hornish</b><p>Hi All:<br /><br />Just beginning to branch out into pre-war cards and have lurked long enough. I know a few of you guys from OBC but that's about it. I am starting to put together Brooklyn Dodger team sets primarily from various E, T and R sets (I especially am fond of 30's R cards at present)and also collecting T 205/6/7 backs. Casting about for information, I re-stumbled across this forum.<br /><br />It's out of context here but I am also a big 60's and 70's Topps Oddball collector and am trying to piece together a baseball type set thru 1980 from the king o' bubble gum as well (excluding those four and five figure proofs!). I'm also fascinated by Lenticular technology of the 60s' and 70's.<br /><br />I have a few articles in the OBC library, including a long out-of-date (written in 1992) T card monograph and you may have seem my bit on Topps Inserts and Test Sets there as well (also old but holding up better). I also try to maintain extensive vertical files and scans on the vintage sets as I am a bit of an archivist and very interested in the historical aspects of sports (and non-sports) cards and how they fit into the pop culture of their time.<br /><br />Well enough about me......I look forward to reading through all the posts!<br /><br />Happy New Year too!<br /><br />Dave Hornish

As you may have noticed, the board is a little occupied today with one of the controversial threads that pop up from time to time, but things will calm down. If you can think of something good to share, you may be able to distract us from all the other stuff that goes on here. Most of the times this place is pretty good but every once in a while (well about once a week) we have a little drama....Not sure that the majority don't actually like some drama. Posted By: <b>David Hornish</b><p>Well, I'm a newbie to the board but not the planet. 45 yrs old at present, getting younger by the day though (the wife would say more "infantile").<br /><br />I am starting to troll the Ebay listings for T, R and E cards but I do tend to buy most of my stuff at shows. Being from OBC I am not a mint freak or anything even close to it and I own a grand total of zero slabbed cards at the moment. That will probably change as I finish off my Topps lists and look more to the pre war(s) items. I'm very comfortable knowing what's real and what's not in the Topps/Bowman universe but not so on the older material so graded cards are likely going to join my parade, although there is a good chance I would spring any card I buy that's entombed (gotta think about that a little more as it has implications in a way). In any event, how a card presents is far more important to me than a technical grade and I would say most of my collection averages VG or so.<br /><br />Essentially, I am putting together Brooklyn Dodgers/Robins/Superbas team sets from over the years as it seems a nice way to collect a lot of sets but have more than just a type example of each and I have a huge historical interest in the Brooklyns, thanks to reading the Boys of Summer when I was about 12 and then hearing my Dad talk about them these many years as he started going to Ebbets Field in the 30's. So most of the T/R/E cards on my list are either Brooklyns or back variations of T205/6/7 which I also find fascinating from an historical persepctive(I must admit I like the 207's).<br /><br />Dave<br /><br />

In fact I'm headed to Cubs fantasy baseball camp in a few weeks to be the camps only left handed catcher. It's a blast playing ball with former major leagers. My collection is the topps cubs from 1951 to current. I have all the errors and variations in the regular line and the updates. I also collect 1921 Yankees cards in the old stuff. My great great nncle was the center fielder for the team is where the interest is from. The dodgers theme is pretty cool also Good that you have a passion to support and a family that understands.
