Posted By: <b>barrysloate</b><p>It certainly is a beautiful image and very large. It's also clearly a team from Springfield, as per the photographer's stamp and the "S" on the uniform. It is compelling that the player seated to the extreme right strongly resembles Christy Mathewson, who played in Taunton, Mass. in 1899. I'm not saying it is him, but does anyone else see the resemblance?... Calling Joe D.

I know all too well in my years of looking at photos how many look alikes there are, but you have to start somewhere.

Posted By: <b>Steve M.</b><p>I think you have a photo of the Sprinfield Mass. Ponies, circa 1905 or so. The second player from the left in the back row is, I think, Luby. I will try working on the others when I get home. In the meantime here is a picture of Luby for comparison.<br /><br />P.S. Barry, I think you meant the player on the far "left" bottom row as looking like Matty.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.network54.com/Realm/tmp/1168359460.JPG">

No way to tell if its a legitimate photo or a copy? What was this Sprinfield team? A minor league team? Semi-pro?

Kind of a neat piece either way....I have nothing like this in my collection...what would be a reasonable amount of money to offer the guy for this??? Assuming it's reasonable for me as well...lol
