Pre-war Type Set Checklist

Posted By: <b>RayB</b><p>Has any of our Board members undertaken to come up with the definitive Master Pre-war Type Set checklist?<br />I realize some "types" are flat out impossible due to rarity or expense. I think he owns every type card around except a few odd ball variations (like D381 Ferguson Bakery, Niagra, etc..) I think the only way to do this checklist would be to get the latest ACC (1960), the last 5-10 yrs of Krause (as they indiscriminantly dropped some vintage sets to make room for shiny stuff in different years), the current OldCardboard site, the 4th edition of The Sports Collectors Bible, and maybe my website <img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14> and put them all together. There are quite a few promotional (especially Ruth) cards that are uniquely known, or maybe less than a handful known, that would make it tough to do a "complete" list. I would be willing to help if anyone would like to try one....also, would it include the Victorian generic baseball cards? My thought is that it would need to.....For my collection I am only trying the ones with ACC numbers to consider it complete but will continue with the others too...like Allstar Baseball, Orange Borders, Baseball Bats etc....

I have a "Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards", Lipsets Encyclopedia and the OLD Cardboard link to get started.<br />Thanks. Krause has just recently begun cataloging cards from Cuba, Venezuela, and elsewhere, but there are many sets that haven't yet made it into the Standard Catalog. Hopefully, one of them will chime in and offer to help.<br /><br />I have cards from two different Cuban sets that are still uncatalogued (1927 Imperial Chocolate postcard, and 1927 Trinidad y Hno Cigars premium photo -- the dates are guesses but I think they are right). Many of the Latin American sets feature players from the U.S. major leagues and players from the U.S. negro leagues.

Totally forgot I had posted that at OBC.<br /><br />Please be aware that I created this list in the early 90's, when I had a lot of time on my hands (i.e., no kids at the time!) It was essentially a summary of the 3rd edition of Sports Collectors Bible and whatever major price guides existed back then, lipset's books and TOJ's plus stuff I pulled from my vertical files (about 1500 articles at that point in time). I would love to say I will update it some time this decade but I am beginning to think any major work I do on upgrading my damnably long lists will have to wait until I retire (if all goes well, that will be in 2018)or at least once the kids are off to college (2015 will be their first coincidental year, oy!) <br /><br />Seriously, I want to add to this but no time right now......I have a two foot high stack of tearsheets and other materials I have to organize first.<br /><br />Dave
