Posted By: JimB
We had a Cobb card comparison earlier this week. Here is another. Which T206 Cobb pose do you like best? Try to disregard value or relative scarcity. I am curious as to which one people find most aesthetically pleasing. Personally I have always liked the bat-off the best. I love the colors and the intensity it captures on Cobb's face.

My ranking would be:
1. Bat off
2. Red Portrait
3. Green Portrait.
4. Bat on.

edited to add commentary on the bat-off pose.

Bat off
2. Red Portrait
3. Bat on
4. Green Portrait
Posted By: Dylan
bat on
red port.
green port.
bat off

The look on Cobb's face on the bat on pose is great. Captures the attitude of Cobb getting ready to unload on a pitch. The red portrait is a classic, and while the background of the bat off pose is quite colorful Cobb's image doesnt present as well as the bat on or portraits do.

Posted By: Joann
I used to like Bat Off because of the colors, and owned one for 6 or 7 years. But after looking at it all that time, it seemed like it was out of proportion - like his head was really too big for his body or something. I don't mind Bat On, but in the T206 set there are so many cards with the green-grass-yellow-sky theme that it seems a little ho-hum. Of his four cards, that one to me looks the most blah.

I like green better than red because it's centered a bit better - not so much of the chest and torso showing. Also, it looks like the gaze is more clear and steady. I really like the red, but there is something about the way it's drawn that almost looks unclear or off-register. And the gaze is out to the side.

Hard to explain the diff in portraits and why I like green better. But it is a neat little study in the T206 set - the two portraits obviously came from the same photo, and yet received different treatments and had different outcomes.

Green
Red
Bat Off
Bat On

Someday I might switch the order of Red and Bat Off - those colors still are gorgeous, aren't they?

Joann

Posted By: nbrazil
based purely on aesthetics:

1. red: the red background really catches your eye. This was my first T206 card and was the main reason why i got into the set.
2. bat off: cobb looks fierce in this card. he looks like he's staring down the pitcher as he prepares to get into his stance. the background also is very appealing
3. green: the green background is quite soothing....not as sharp or contrasting as the red, but it has it's uniqueness to it.
4. bat on: not really a bad looking card, but it doesnt look a whole like cobb.
Posted By: Brett
The t206 Cobb bat off shoulder has always been my favourite card from the set. I think when i first starting using yahoo auctions and ebay a while ago, it was the first t206 Cobb i'd ever seen. The picture of Cobb really looks like him in great detail, plus the background colours are also neat ( just like the e93 Leach )

I'd rank them :

1. Bat off - Best !!
2. Green port. - Not because of the money, just because the green really looks nice with the portrait.
3 & 4. Red port and Bat on are tied for me. I don't mind them, but i'd rather have #'s 1 and 2

The only Cobb card I own is the Bat on shoulder. I'll probably never sell it just because its my first Cobb
