He was one of America's most unusual presidents, having never been elected to anything other than the Senate. But he seemed like a decent soul, something the country needed after the fiascos of his predecessor. Also was the oldest president ever, a couple of months older than Reagan was when he died.

The guy was a stud of a football player and probably the most athletic president that we ever had. So it's kind of ironic that he's best known for Chevy Chase's parodies of him slipping on Washington D.C. ice.

DavidVargha@hotmail.com

Posted By: Greg
Just to respectfully correct a previous post -- I don't think it's fair to say that Gerald Ford was a man who was never elected to anything other than the Senate.
Ford was elected to the House of Representatives 12 times -- that's a pretty impressive election record. He was also elected by his colleagues to the post of House Minority Leader, and had Republicans ever gained control of the House during that time, he would have been Speaker of the House. Ford was never elected to the Senate, although as Vice President he served as President of the Senate. While there are very differing views on his presidency, he certainly led an incredible life.

Posted By: John S
As Rhett mentioned, Ford is pictured on a R311-2. The image below is actually an AP wirephoto (same picture as the Chicle premium). Ford is behind and just to the left of Warburton the ball carrier.

Laugh out loud.

Gerald Ford was a straight-arrow and the man we needed after Nixon. A great football player who decided to go to law school and eventually serve his country. He was the straight arrow that we needed. RIP.

Peter

Posted By: Max Weder
Perhaps not unexpectedly, I just received an email from a book dealer offering the following:

"Only 3000 copies of this autographed, limited and numbered edition were ever produced. This has become one of the biggest sellers of any Ford signed book since his passing last evening. Limited copies are available directly from www.[deleted].com and copies are discounted $100 each today only before they are offered at full price next week by one of the world's largest TV Shopping channels."

Somehow, a little bit of dignity seems to be lost with the timing of these sorts of messages.

Max
