Posted By: Joe_G.
Two extremely difficult issues that include cards of some of my favorite Detroit players. If the elite few that have examples of these cards don't mind, please share a couple new poses with us, especially any of the Detroits. Thank You !

1888-89 E223 G&B Chewing Gum Detroits
- Lady Baldwin
- Dan Brouthers
- Charlie Getzien
- Ned Hanlon
- Sam Thompson (Detroit?)
- Larry Twitchell (Cleveland?)

1888 N403 Yum Yum Tobacco Detroits
- Lady Baldwin
- Dan Brouthers
- Charlie Getzien

At least those are the catalogued examples.

If I understand these two sets correctly, all the Detroits are line drawings since they are all action poses, no portraits. The E223 Twitchell with Cleveland is a portrait, so I assume it is an actual photo. I'll get it started by showing the LOC example of Getzein's Yum Yum. Due to the rarity, I'll understand if I get no replies, but I'm hopeful.

1888 N403 Yum Yum Tobacco

Charlie "Pretzel" Getzien

Best Regards,
Joe Gonsowski

Posted By: Bruce Babcock
Actually, I own all those cards, Joe.

(Just kidding!)

I would enjoy seeing any of those. I've never owned a G&B and have 2 N403s but no Detroit players.

Hats off, congrats and thanks for sharing. Just wish there were more pics.

Richard & others, I have a question on SGCs checklist. They list a N403 portrait of Lady Baldwin (Detroit). Is it possible that they listed this in mistake?, no one else seems to list such a variation. Others only list Lady Baldwin in a pitching pose (both E223 & N403). There is an E223 of Mark Baldwin of Chicago as a portrait in civilian clothes. Perhaps the N403 Baldwin portrait entry is supposed to be Mark Baldwin, a match to his E223 card. If this isn't a mistake, it would be the only Detroit card in E223 or N403 that isn't a line drawing (I believe).

Best Regards,
Joe Gonsowski
